I’ll be traveling on US-29 and I-81 to buy a car on 10/28. Hopefully, everything goes smoothly. If not, I might need some help. Details after the jump.
I’m going on an adventure to possibly purchase a Porsche 944 Turbo. Details on that in the post below. I figured that I’d post this to cover myself. I’ll be traveling along the blue route above from Lynchburg, VA to Hagerstown, MD and then back to Lynchburg. I’ve rented Toyota Camry that I’ll be dropping off in Hagerstown if I like the 944. I plan on leaving at 9AM 10/28 and meeting the seller at 1PM.
This 944 Turbo has 250,000 miles on it, and while it’s supposed to be mechanically sound, It’s still a 27 year old car. I’d hate to get stranded on my trip. Wish me luck! I’ll be checking this post as often as I can.

That drive through the Vally is drop dead gorgeous. I went to school at JMU, and have traveled back east many times since then. I miss it. Good luck, and have a safe drive!

Depending on the time of day 29-15 will make you hate yourself due to commuter traffic.

If you have the time, definitely take Skyline drive and the Blue Ridge parkway instead of 81. And if you don’t have time, you can skip Skyline and just hop on the beginning of the BRP. WELL worth the time, especially if you get some nice weather. Might get some traffic around now though with leaf watching tourists so I’d recommend not a weekend.

That is a WONDERFUL drive. Just watch for cops when you get off 81

I hate 81, so if I had time, I would do this.

One of the better stretches of Interstate in the country. That was once the breadbasket of early America, sort of like the Great Plains or the CA Central Valley. Amazing to think how crucial it was to feeding our young nation.
If you don’t at least stop at Luray Caverns and Monticello, you are a communist who hates America and I hope your 944 breaks down every 10 miles.
I mean, I highly recommend those two stops. But if you live in Lynchburg, you’ve probably been to both already.
I see Google also recommends the DC route because it hates people and wants to push its autonomous car agenda :D

My sister went to JMU. I loved visiting, it was such a pretty area. Also, they know how to party down there!

Best of luck on your trip, hope the 944 works out for you. Remember, do not speed in VA. Especially if you end up doing Skyline or Blue Ridge Pkwy on your way back in the 944. There is a cop like every 1/4 mile on both roads just looking for speeders.
And be careful in Hagerstown, take the normal precautions, meet the guy in public if you don’t already know him. I try to avoid going up there, there’s a lot of places that are pretty sketch.

They do indeed. I graduated in 1989. It’s changed a lot since then!

You should have AAA, I’ve done some long distance traveling for my cars (both Audis, both wagons), and though nothing has ever happened it helps to know that there’s back up lol. Also I have a premier membership ($129), it gives you 1 250 mile tow, and 2 100mile tows, anthing under does not affect the top 2 teirs.
