They are not openning the doors though :)
Mr Koenigsegg approves I’m sure...

So is this just one of those gran turismo concept vehicles?

You could pull up to the fanciest hotel in Monaco and still be the center of attention.

Great shots! What a car.

I don’t think they open, and I don’t think it runs either.

There was a pic on the FP of the interior. It is included below:

Oh hey, lost my pants
edit - I just made the Cerberra Speed 12 mental connection, and now I just want this thing to be stupid mega bonkers dual-engine 8 rotor 5.2L engine.

All I can could do was say, “oh, shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit”
They did real good.

So is that a Cosmo, or RX...9? because it looks to be way bigger than a RX-7 successor should be.
![]() 10/27/2015 at 21:51 |

Nah it’s about the same size as a FD... Longer noise and shorter back...
Next tto its designer and Mazda’s CEO
![]() 10/27/2015 at 22:03 |

wow the proportions make it look much longer. It is crazy wide tho.
![]() 10/27/2015 at 22:08 |

Why is the hood so long when rotaries are so small?
Quad rot? Quad turbs? quad quad
![]() 10/27/2015 at 22:31 |

I know it’s not, but it looks gigantic.

First time I ever came with both hands on the keyboard. Thanks.

I think it’s supposed to be a successor to both the Cosmo and the RX-7/8.

One of the FP commenters claims he knows a guy at Mazda who says that it’s a hybrid as well, so maybe all that room is for batteries and other fancy stuff.

yes indeed - that is a beautiful car. I hope they can come up with a power plant worthy of that body.

My guess is that it has to do with the heart it generates compared to a normal engine... it needs to breathe and cannot really be cramped in a small engine bay...

Great shots, thanks! I like it, and want to love it but I have a couple hangups. I feel like if they raised the roof line of that greenhouse, it (obviously) wouldn’t look so sunken and then the hood would not feel awkwardly long to me. Two birds, one stone.
One more thing, what in the world is happening with those side views? I know it is a concept but damn.

This is a great photo, you should know. Good eye, well-composed.
This car does look a bit like an Aston, and it’s rotary-powered, so I really really want it. By the time it comes out I might be in a place to buy a used Aston, and this might be right in that price range...

Thanks man :)
I LOVED taking pictures of this car. The lightning was so good that it was virtually impossible to miss a picture lol

RX-Vision 4,389mm x 1,925mm x 1,160mm
FB 2,420mm x 1,675mm x 1,260mm
FC 3,415mm x 1,689mm x 1,265mm
FD 4,285mm x 1,760mm x 1,230mm

Because sexy!

It does look much, much bigger with no one standing next to it for scale. Fantastic design.

Yeah, I love it. And I bet you, like me, don’t often see a concept that you don’t start critiquing right away - ha!

Presence; it has it.

Prettiest car of the decade, hands-down. Do I think there are things that should have been done differently? Of course. But. It's just gorgeous.
![]() 10/29/2015 at 11:13 |

High praise coming from you! It has amazing presence: looks incredibly wide and long, but it actually quite small when seen in perspective with people standing nearby. I think the long, smooth, nearly un-adorned door and fenders are the best feature. The long, continuous curves in the bodywork are so stunning. Incredible restraint shown in the entire design.

Great shot!

The more you look at it, the more evolution of the FD you see. The bodyside sections, highlighted in a lot of the press pics— that sweep of highlight is so perfectly a lengthened and tightened FD bodyside, with more drape. Moving the vent from the rocker to the shoulder makes it all the more muscular. Someone else said something along the lines of: Mazda’s grille: there’s nothing it doesn’t look good on. Back in the 90s, cars didn’t really have grilles. And it didn’t look super good on the RX-8 (which I wanted to like, but never really could). But this? God
damn
.
![]() 10/29/2015 at 11:52 |

If they can pull off a miracle and bring a car to market that looks 90% as good as this (and has the handling and performance to match), there’s going to be a whole new generation of Mazda faithful.

This design is crazy and impractical. I love it.

My gf says a Miata is too small. Guess I'll have to get one of these if/when they come out.

Hum... My SA22C is bigger than a Smart, trust me :)
And the FC is actually 3cm longer than the FD (in all seriousness, the SA22C/FB is the same size as the FD... but usually 2 to 300kg lighter)
SA22C/FB: 4,285mm
FC: 4,315mm
FD: 4,285mm
