Last weekend:
Traded in 2010 Jetta TDI and picked up a new 2015 GTI. (flexed loyalty bonus + dealership bonus).
Girlfriend booked us tickets to England for mid-June through Early July.
Goodwood tentatively scheduled right smack in the middle of that.

How’d the negotiation process go? I figure that dealerships would like to avoid something as uncertain as a TDI, although maybe they are doing well on the used market. Or were they just happy to have a sale?

Dunno if you guys are Harry Potter fans, but if so you’ll be there while they’re running preview performances of the J.K. Rawling’s play that is a sequel to the books. Tickets go on sale today or tomorrow.
I’m trying to talk my gf into going, and she wants to, but it’s tough to schedule that far in advance since she’ll be starting med school next year.

So you’ve got three weeks of hoonage, video games, and beer until she gets back?!

Ha. Actually, that is also a reason why we are going. Didn’t think it was worth mentioning until tickets go on sale tomorrow and we will likely acquire those as well. :D

Lol nice!
I may just buy tickets, they’re surprisingly affordable, tomorrow. If we can’t make the trip, I figure it shouldn’t be too hard to scalp them.

I think they were honestly happy to have a sale. I found a dealership that had an offer of 2K on top of the 2K from VW. Perfect weather on a saturday and i was one of 3 customers on the lot. Between that, my great condition of the car, they tried to haggle me down on price. Lowballed me at 7k, G/F turned out to be a pro-negotiator and gained an additional 1.5k (nearly 2 but the manager was a dick). 8500 on trade with a few thousand short on the existing loan (bought at carmax, dummydumdum). That’s about 1500 less than what kbb said it was worth pre-scandal. Paying about 150 more per loan payment, but honestly, new car feeling, out of the troublesome emission system and questionable fueling system (0 problems from mine, but well aware of their issues), and into fun as fuck car that i have wanted since getting in the tdi.

I’d likely be buying them for the actual premier though. :P

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want a mk7 GTI. Hopefully they’ve ironed out their little reliability issues while ignoring other things at vw.

Nice. Brilliant Silver Metallic, yes?
I’ve always ummd and arrrd about whether if I was to go for a three door VW, I’d go for the the Golf or the Scirocco, I’m still not decided.
Nice car though, enjoy fella.

out of the dirty dub as i was on the fence about whether i wanted to spring to make the car “more sporty” or what. Wanted the tune, lower, etc, but wanted to keep it mostly emissions legit. Didn’t want to deal with whatever was going to happen for long term of vw diesel and whatever could possibly happen down the road. Still love the diesel. Was just rappin with a coworker how wonderfully batshit insane the v10 tdi’s are. Decided with all those wants that clearly this car wasn’t what i wanted and jumped out while the getting was ok.

Yeah! I think they call it reflex silver on this side of the pond. Went with the 3-door as that’s all that was on lot, and honestly with how vw does their 3-door with same interior room as 4-door i figured why not. G/f dug the 3-door for the euro appeal, too.

I see, can’t really bash ya for that :P
Make sure you get coils for the GTI though! They look like they have 4x4 suspension lol

I think for a small to medium hot hatch it has to have three doors.
Five is practical, if you need five doors, but three looks better.

Agreed. And i figured if/when this car comes to babby-duty i better be fit enough to slide the seats and get a baby back there real easily.

It’s not so much fit but to be a contortionist.

Saw your avatar and noticed the MK7. Gorgeous. That is exactly the color I wanted but couldn’t find the 3-door with the optons I wanted. I ended up with white which is okay but not as good to me.
TL;DR: Sweet ride

Thanks! To be fair, this one didn’t have all the options i wanted either. no LP, no PP, :\ But the price was good, i wanted out on the tdi. I already swapped out the headlamps for some nice reps fixing one of those issues. I’ll probably up the brakes and power sometime later this year. Here’s how it stands as of today.

Fellow 3-door GTI owner here. Mine is 2016 Tornado Red with no options except Performance Package, which is the only one worth paying for. Love it to bits and traded my SAAB 9-3 Aero for it, because it had served me well enough and was getting harder to sell in Michigan. Hope you enjoy it in good health and try not to get too crazy, because the clutches are a weak point on these cars. Besides, they’ve got PLENTY of power once you hit boost. Enough for daily driving and enough to land you a big ticket. Otherwise, they’re damn reliable and don’t have the carbon buildup issues the earlier cars had, due to a different intake design and a better PCV system. I got the car with the All-Season Pirellis, which are horrible for ANY kind of enthusiastic driving. So swap them out once the cold weather is gone. I’m sticking to the stock suspension, because I don’t want Michigan roads to kill my car . Fantastic vehicles and I’m honestly enjoying it as much as my E39 M5, which are words I never thought I’d say. I think we need a 3-door MK7 GTI meet somewhere in America.
Cheers !

my mk7 is treating me well! I don’t post on oppo nearly as much anymore, but i’m quite active on the golfmk7 forums and the mqb facebook. 40k miles on it now. JB4 power-adder, retrofit headlights, performance pack brakes, the CSS-spec oem swaybar. Nothing crazy, but still lots of fun.

That’s fantastic man. I’m at 42K miles and just started driving it daily again, because the weather’s been crazy the last 3 months. I was thinking of going with a JB4 after getting a fresh set of tires, but I was afraid my warranty from VW would be affected. Looks like your dealer doesn’t care or do they ?

There’s a “mod-friendly” dealer not too far away, and i generally don’t deal with the dealerships unless it’s for parts or recall work. Change oil and DSG myself and i have a local euro specialist for everything else. I love the jb4 though, it’s enough extra power to not be much of a concern or strain on the system.
