First sign of winter, my dash starts to creak. Is there any way to fix this? It’s the hard-plastic-on-hard-plastic creak that comes from letting accountants near the engineers quarters. I was thinking of pulling it apart and adding a thin bead of silicone or similar product around all the joints. The problem is I want to be able to get it apart again if I need to. I don’t have the time to leave it apart to dry (so I would have a layer of silicon without it sticking together) and besides if I did it that way it probably wouldn’t fit after.
Is there any way to beat this? Commence brainstorming below. Thanks

2/2 answers so far have suggested removing the interior entirely.

Plastic squeak will always squeak. Because GM.

Make something that makes it not winter.

I was afraid of that. I was hoping for some way to fix it.
The materials used never bother me until winter, then they are SO NOISY

But I like winter.

I would get a graphite lubricant. It’s literally just graphite suspended in alcohol, you drip it into the seams and the alcohol evaporates leaving the graphite behind. It likely won’t last forever, but it’s easy enough to apply. You probably won’t even need to remove anything.
This it what I use to lube anything that I don’t want to create a sticky mess with grease or oil.

Interesting. I was wondering about some kind of lube, but I didn’t want oil/grease running all over the interior, especially down through the joints in the dash onto the wiring.
Will look into.

My FieSTa has the same problem :P
I have a roll of this, I just haven’t gotten around to using it yet...

Then I guess your dash will squeak.

And ungrey.

Interesting. This might just do it.

I always thought plastidip, the actual paint on liquid kind might be good for this. I haven’t actually tried it though.

Thanks, I'll look into that.

My mini had this in the speaker bezel in the door. Solution, turn on heat and point at said bezel. The thermal expansion takes care of it!

Could be worse, you could have squeaks from your dash and center console all year round.
*Stares at my “superior” German plastic dash*

That's kind of the problem. The HVAC is just underneath, and when you've got heat underneath/cold on top from the windshield it creaks all the time.

Centre console squeaks all year, but I’m pretty sure I can fix that, I just haven’t got around to it. Dash creaks after sustained dirt road travel. Then after a while on smooth roads the parts sort of settle back together again. The heat below/cold above of winter keeps them moving all the time.
But yeah, could be worse. Though I'm REALLY sick of my drivers seat squeak. All the more motivation to swap them for H3 seats I guess

Foam tape weatherstripping.
Let me know if it was worth all the effort. I’ve been thinking of doing this, but have so far been too lazy to try it.

I'll look into it, but I doubt if there's any foam tape small enough.

Head to a craft store and look for some sort of adhesive felt pad that you can put over the spots where contact is being made.

My truck often has the same problem, when the squeak develops I run a little silicon lubricant between the dash and the window. I suspect it makes a mess somewhere back behind the dash but I did it a couple times the first few years after buying the truck in 2007 and have not had to do it since. It did leave a little mess on the glass that took a bit to clean up but now it is no problem. Since my truck is an old beater I have no issue applying it this way and since I have never seen it come out any place what ever mess it created has not been a concern for me. That said if I had a nice car I would likely pull the dash and rub it in to the dash to avoid the mess that I am sure is back in there somewhere.
