Even if I have to build this car 2 hours at a time, I will do it. Fender off once again to see the spooky horror the rust monster has created.
Brake parts ready to be installed.
Rust ground off the rotors, shiny now, calipers on.
Clamping for welding.
Finished burly welds.
Hacking up the donor floors.
In the car, also found a sweet 240Z wood wheel!
Floor fits!
Lots of rust in this area, probably from a leaking brake master cylinder.
I’m no longer a Flintstone! Still needs a lot of trimming and fitting before it gets to welding the driver’s side, and I need to fabricate the rocker panel, lots of work to do, but it feels really good to be getting things done.
Happy DatSunday, Oppo.

This was great! Do most datsuns normally have significant rust?

Not from the factory but old Datsuns are fairly prone to rusting. :P
Most if not all cars of that age will do so as well though and each will have specific problem areas.

A common saying around the Datsun forum is that it takes 3 Roadsters to make one, lucky I’m only on 2, hahaha. The problem with them is that the metal that the Japanese could get was predominantly recycled, so it wasn’t the best quality when it was built. Along with bad sections for the water to drain out of and over 50 years, a car can get pretty rusty. Glad you liked it! I’ll definitely be posting more about it.

Awesome!
Did you buy new calipers from Dean? Also, what kind of welder are you using?
