Kinja'd!!!

Yesterday I sold the biggest car I will likely ever own and probably the only car I will ever own that I never drove. This 227in 5000 pound behemoth has left me to a man far more experienced in the craft of restoration than I will likely ever be. I am glad the Capri is off to a new home that will give it the loving care it deserves. Hopefully we will cross paths again. I have a feeling you won’t be too far away.

ABC is broken again..., I'm considering replacing the abc with conventional struts . Other that that, not much. How about the SL ?

Similar boat. ADS light comes on, but I think I’ve narrowed it down to a fluid leak when the system is under pressure (no puddles, but slow fluid loss in the reservoir up front. Accumulators are on the hit list, as are all the seals for the system. Wont be easy, but needs to happen, and at 112k, I’m right around the point where it’s necessary.

Otherwise, runs like a top, just like it should. I’ve got a longer list of things to do to it, but I’m sorting through the most important functions first.

Out of curiosity, what’s your DD? I wouldn’t think it’s the S, but I’ve been wrong before.

Ah yes, the two proudest days of boat ownership. The day you bought it, and the day you sold it!

It’s the S600, but I have a ‘01 suburban and a ‘98 accord as a backup/winter car.

Yeah, it's really a shame, it's a 1961 Owens cabin cruiser, but it needs about $20,000 to be in usable condition, money id rather spend on my car.

I was out of the house all day yesterday, so I didn’t check in. Back safe to NC, though somewhere (probably within 4 miles of my house due to a low tire), I cracked a wheel, which made for a flat to swap this morning. That trip, man. Also, it turns out that interstate all the way makes for a longer journey than predicted when due to rain, dark, and lack of horsepower, you can’t actually maintain the 70 all the way through that Google thinks you can. Got back a little after 1:00.

Kinja'd!!!

I will be attempting to establish what my recovery plan is during the week (availability of truck, etc.). I may be able to leave here Friday evening with recovery device, and get up there in the morning to load up, and leave enough time to get that done and get back. Maybe.

Yeah you had a rough Saturday. No idea how you did that. I would have stayed the night in Dayton hung out at the muesuem and drove back on Sunday if I was you.

As for loading up the Lincoln. Just let me know we will work something out

Looks like the wheel won’t be that huge of a pain, even if the local Benz place doesn’t have one. I have also just looked at Wright-Patterson from space, and it looks like at the museum they converted an entire runway to parking. Soooo, it’s not out of the question to drive to the museum, park (assuming the gate is fine with people towing trailers, etc.), hit the museum, then drive out to Columbus afterward. Anything to reduce the trip length is a plus, obviously, and being able to hit the museum on the retry without retracing steps would be nice. Or, of course, one could load up the Lincoln, then drive to Wright-Patterson. *Gate guard in best Star Wars officer voice*: “Where are you taking this... thing?”

Hahaha I wouldn’t be surprised if the gate guard had seen weirder stuff driving trough there.

Good to know the Benz won't too big of a problem. You said yours was the newest what other ones does your family own?

Mine is one of the two newest. The other newest is like a ‘94 - it’s a gas 300E 4MATIC that is the same bodystyle and color and about to tick over 300k. The other three are a ‘78, a ‘79, and an ‘83(?), all W123 series. The first two are a sky blue 240D in auto and a maroon 240D in stick (!). The maroon one has a floor hole that needs fixing, and they’re both offline for engine rebuild, though the maroon one was driving around up to earlier this year. The early 80s one is a dark blue 300D turbo which needed rear fender rust remedy and new paint, so is currently squatting like a toad in the paint booth with all its trim, bumpers, and lights off, after having its fenders repaired. We used to have a W114/115 240d, but it fell to a cracked block and body rust while on semi-permanent loaner duty to someone.

About two hours from home, I did happen to think of something to add to the stable of nicknames for the Lincoln - something you might find amusing:

Dang it almost sounds like you could open up at late 80s/ early 90s Mercedes muesuem.

As for the nickname on the Lincoln that would be pretty hilarious.
