The Birkett 6 Hour is the 750 Motor Clubs season ending race, open to all cars bar open wheelers. That meant an entry of nearly 70 teams, and around 300 cars entered. Yes, you read that right, 300 cars.

As the name suggests its a relay, with teams entering anything from 3 to 6 cars, and everything from a Ferrari 360 Cup, Radical SR3, and even a Smart ForTwo on the entry.

Oh, and it was WET, as seems to be the way whenever I go to Silverstone.

Civic Type Rs made some good progress in the wet, with the quickest getting up to around 8th, up with the Caterhams and M3s as the rain fell.

Another very popular car was the 318 compact, which has its own series with the 750mc. Lots of sideways action was had.

And the teeny tiny Smart ForTwo bringing up the rear of field. Short wheel base did mean these spent quite a lot of time facing the wrong way.

The RGB and Sports Prototypes dominated the head of the field. Tim Grey in the Spire made it look far too easy, driving round the outside of cars at will. He started lapping cars after 2 laps.

Considering this was the race start, the field spread was huge.

The E46 M3 has its own championship next year, and I counted at least 10 out in this race. Practise makes perfect.

Hmm, meaty V8 power and rain. So someone has clearly been taking brave pills.

I imagine the drivers of Caterhams were mostly made of water after 5 minutes.

Damp.

Yep, very damp.

Between times of heavy rain the track did go from being a giant lake, to a greasy ice rink. At no point was it anywhere even approaching dry, thanks to an air temperature of 8c and the sun deciding to not show up for the day.

Hooray for Retro liveries.

The Ferrari 355 started the race for team 52.

Seat Leon Supercopa, the staple of European endurance racing.

Old or new was more than welcome in the Birkett. If you want variety, you’d be hard pressed to beat this event.

As well as the scratch result, there was a Handicap event going, with teams all given a number of credit laps, ranging from 0 to 44. The Handicap result ended up going the way of the Hyundai Coupe teams.

Its not a race if a car doesnt have gaffer tape on it.

There was more than a little standing water off line.

Big TVR seemed to grab all the water from the track.

Ginetta brought 2 teams of its academy drivers, a program that means if you buy a G40, they enter you into 4 race weekends a year. This year they brought 20 new drivers into the series, and in 2016 they already have 25 signed up.

Saloon Libre is a pretty open series, hence this Escort which doesn’t exactly look stock. That rear wing would put most GT3s to shame.

302 swapped Capri, in a Jagermeister livery. Nice.

Ford GT40 kit car was a nice surprise.

Another staple of endurance racing in Europe, the Clio Cup seems a great and affordable way to go racing wherever you fancy, from Dubai to the Nurburgring.

991 spec Carrera Cup car as being driven at 100% by one of the potential Porsche Scholarship drivers.

Heavily modified AW12 MR2

MK1 Escort in a slightly more original form that the Saloon Libre version.

The second Escort with its ridiculous aero.

American Muscle vs. Japanese Tuner. both looked a handful in the wet to be honest.

Hooray for Radicals in the rain.

What a fun day, and now I have dried out so hooray for that.

I saw it, but by this point my camera had ingested quite a lot of water, so wasn’t playing ball. Epic car though, looked really mean.

oo that’d be awesome. I know theres the GPRM car running in British GT as an invitational car, but never understood why the GT86 isn’t a more popular race car. Seems like it would be the perfect car for it.
