Just had dinner at Panera with my parents. I have never had a more miserable meal. If you call yourself a “foodie” and insist Panera bread is your favorite restaurant I swear to god your entire existence is a lie. I only caved in eating there despite my hunger, because the alternative was Jack In The Box tacos. Their “creamy” tomato soup was chunky soup with hardly any trace of richness to it. But what else would you expect from a postmodernist society. The fact that Marcel Duchamp could rotate a urinal sideways and call it “art” was the beginning of the end. The Turkey BLT I ate was as tasteless as telling Holocaust jokes at the Weeping Wall and was eaten without joy-only for sustenance at this point.

I feel the same way about Applebee’s.
I can’t stand the term “foodie” or “sneakerhead” for that matter.

The main thing I don’t like about Panera is that they charge approximately $25.00 for a meal for my wife and I that I could find at a local deli for $12.00.

Never tell my wife, who loves panera, but I agree. I prefer the five guys next door....

Panera’s been going downhill. They’re overpriced, the quality isn’t bad but not outstanding, the flavors are mild when you expect some saturation, and overall it feels like a place a (not being sexist) girl goes to take pictures of her food before getting on the phone to talk to her friends about nothing while eating, barely tasting what she’s putting in her mouth. It’s the Starbucks of food, and the apparent base of operations of the “pumpkin spice latte” crowd. I’d rather go to Bread Co. (as it’s called here in Saint Louis, which was the company’s original name before they bought Panera and spread it, IIRC) than Starbucks, but that’s not saying anything as I never want to go to.starbucks.
Mmmm, Jack in the Box tacos...

their broccoli cheese soup in a bread bowl is awesome though. it’s overpriced, but it’s good enough.

Lol you can’t be a foodie and recommend a chain restaurant that’s not how it works.

I'm not. I'm condemning and mocking those who do.

Panera is disgusting. And unbelievably overpriced. Service is spotty at best too.

I always used to order the big salads. Pretty good if you like bunny food. Greek dressing is my jam.
I’m still mad that they got rid of the sundried tomato cream cheese, though. One of the more tolerable chain bagels. Needs more interesting non-fruity cream cheese.
