Kinja'd!!!

When on vacation in the ‘80s we always used to get Sentra wagons. On one trip my dad got an upgrade and pulled up in a Pontiac Grand Prix. We all laughed hysterically until he went back and got us our usual Sentra. Back home we had BMWs and VWs but didn’t need such a thing whilst on vacation, and the Sentra was the perfect utilitarian transport.

Now I’d love to find one of these disposable little cars, especially if I can track down one in woodgrain like the one above. I just wonder how many have survived 30+ years and are not rusted through.

Sentra’s fine and all, but this is the 80’s Nissan wagon you want:

Nice as that is, it’s gotta be a Sentra for me. Total utilitarianism, no sense of style.

If I had to go upmarket it would be a Datsun 810 Maxima wagon, preferably in brown (with a manual, of course):

Or old school ... a Dasher.

Actually, my first car was a 1977 Dasher. I just called it a Passat because I figured not too many young people wouldn’t know what a Dasher was. Or a Quantum, for that matter.

And I used an Audi Fox picture because it was better representative of the pre-facelift Passat. Brown manual wagon FTW!

I remember when the call came in: “Hello, you’re on Car Talk.” “Yeah, I have a Volkswagen Quantum ....” So you’re looking for a couple of Quantum mechanics?”
