I knew the second I caught a glimpse of that NR750 in the background of an eBay listing, I had to make a pilgrimage. What lay waiting for me was more than I could have imagined.

A few months ago I stumbled upon an eBay listing for a new Honda VFR, but it was something lurking in the periphery of the photos that made me spit out my coffee. It was the beautiful, smooth profile of a super exotic Honda NR750.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

After thoroughly freaking out about this find, I did some research on the dealer that posted the listing. The dealer, !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , located just outside of Denver, Colorado is apparently as much a museum as it is a dealership. In fact, many museums could only wish they had they had the stuff this dealer does.

I figured the 8 hour drive was worth it to see my mechanical heroes in person. I’m so glad I went.

When I first walked in I didn’t see the NR750 anywhere. My hopes sunk. My field of view expanded as I continued further into the showroom; there it was. I attribute the feeling to that of when a child comes downstairs on Christmas morning eyeing for that train set he so desperately wanted only to find its not under the tree. Then he sees it sitting on the couch because it was too damn big to fit under the tree.

There are two type of customers that visit this dealership. The first type passes right by the extensive display of exotic, rare, and historically significant bikes. They head right on over to new bike section. The second type can’t pull their jaw up off the floor the moment they walk in the door. The friendly and knowledgeable employees at Fay Myers knew which group I fell into and graciously let me eye and envy these beautiful pieces of artwork.

I could blabber on about how special these bikes are but I feel like I’m beating a dead horse. Here are some pictures I snapped while I was there:

A huge thanks to Ross Wilson at Fay Myers Motorcycle World for giving me the tour of the dealership and telling me the history on each one of these special bikes. If you ever find yourself in the Denver area, you owe it to yourself to check out this museu...erm...dealership!

Damn. Just Damn.

I still think RC36 VFR750F (94-97) is one of my favorite Honda bikes... because it looks like NR750. (not that 86-89 is bad, nor 90-93... all good bikes.)

Kinja'd!!!

I wish the newer VFR800 or 1200 models looked that good.

I agree - I wish Honda would return to making interesting and good looking bikes.

Very nice. My first bike was a 1986 VFR700 and I have harbored a love for them and the RC versions ever since.

I thought it was too, but turns out it was just a regular 999 that was dolled up. :(

There’s one at the Barber Motorsport Park Vintage Museum in Birmingham. If you ever get near there, you pretty much have to go.At the time I was there, it was the single biggest bike collection under one roof in North America

Kinja'd!!!

They also have pretty much every VFR ever made...

The NR750 is almost what got me into mechanical engineering. Back when I was a teenager, I read motorbike mags and was dumbfounded and awestruck at the level of experimentation and engineering that went into it and the awesome and beautiful results. I still get goosebumps from seeing the scale model at my work desk.

Never dreamt about even seing one up close, those were about as available as a private jet fighter to a boy in rural Sweden, but I was almost as infatuated by the first Fireblade. Got one years later.

I think the NR750 will always remain my dream bike. Some designs just can’t be bettered!

For anyone wondering what’s so amazing about the NR750, it was a 32 valve V4 with bathtub shaped pistons (8 valves per cylinder). It’s thoroughly bonkers!

I have two 86 750s, well one that is currently running and the other needs me to put the magical smoke back in. They are fun.

I’d ride that old Harley anyday over the rest of ‘em. (And no; not just because it’s a Harley could be an Indian, Triumph whatever). I like old antique bikes with personality. Hope the hit and run driver that destroyed my ‘71 BSA lightning 650 is still tormented wondering if he left me for dead 34 years later...
