Decided to get the Twingo in top shape. Gave it a good clean and polish and now fixing a rattling heat shield that’s been annoying me.

Cool, so you found something now? Anything interesting?

And how’s the Laguna? Did you ever work out what the problem was?

Nothing too interesting just working in a shop for now while I apply for the engineering jobs opening in September.

The low power and fuel economy just turned out to be a seized brake. It still runs a bit rough and leaks oil though.

This is one of the few, recent cars that doesn’t like an angry killer but looks kind of happy, like the previous generation Mazdas. Are these ones rear-engine too? Or is that only for the new generation of Twingo?

It is a happy car, in the way it drives too. So much fun to chuck around. This one's front engine unfortunately, I really want to try a new gen Twingo though, especially if they make an RS version.

Ah well, at least it’s a job.

“The low power and fuel economy just turned out to be a seized brake.”

Hah, that’s good news in comparison. Didn’t occur to me, and now I feel stupid for not thinking of it. Isn’t running rough and leaking oil par for the course with older Renault diesels?

Yeah I was going stir crazy sitting around the house all day, plus I need to pay insurance, tax etc so I needed the money.

I felt silly too, only realised when I heard the noise coming from the stuck brake.

They are leaky things but this is fairly excessive so I'm hoping it can be fixed. The 1.9 dci does have a poor reputation for quality.

Sounds like a good plan, then. But isn’t the tax on the Twingo £30 a year or something?

Tax is £110 and insurance is really high because I’m only 21. Tax isn’t so much a bother but insurance is what hits my wallet.

Oh, £110? I thought it would be cheaper - not that it breaks the bank. Is insurance a fair bit cheaper oop north than in London? Not asking for exact amounts, but do you pay over a grand a year, or is it a bit less than that?

The slightly newer 16v cars are only £30 but I have the 8v engine in mine. I paid about £500 this year with a years no claims, but that’s on a student offer, now I’m not a student anymore I may have to change my circumstances and pay more.
