So I became an auto enthusiast 2 and half years ago, around the same time I got this job and finished my last semester of school. I was so excited about the job (and had just seen so many reviews of the Cayman) that I went straight over to the Porsche dealer to sit in one with real intentions of buying one that day right off the floor.
Luckily I was completely overwhelmed. I had never been in a vehicle with buttons the the steering wheel. I wasn’t prepared for a zero pressure dealer experience where the seemingly only person that was working there always said, “as you know...” before talking about the car. I remember him pointing to the fluid fill caps and everyday I’m thankful he didn’t pop open the front because I would have asked if he had any that came with an engine!
But that’s not the main confession. After needing to get some air, I didn’t drive off with a brand new 2013 Cayman, instead I decided to move out of my mom’s house! Yep, it occurred to me that girls would probably dig a man that lived on his own more than the guy with the hot two seater that would need to take them back to his mom’s place. Funny thing though, I was all about getting ladies until I got a place to myself and all of sudden adulthood hit quick. Dont think maturity came with it though.
This close call is how I remember that intelligence isn’t taught, it’s learned...or something like that. I was 24 so I wasn’t listening when that advice was given by some fogey.

In the end, we all choose the more grown up thing over cars.

True true. But the nice thing is that I can still pull from a nonenthusiast perspective. Funny thing is if you aren’t into cars you will be willing to spend far more on them than people that actually love them. So strange.

I was 23 when I started to finally grow up. I had a Ducati Monster that I bought brand new and an e30 that was beaten up. Sold both of those and bought a mk6 golf tdi. So now I have no speed but I have lots of airbags, good gas mileage, cheap insurance, and lots of NOx :)

So when I bought my crossover I was totally thinking, “this will be good for when I have child seats.” I’m not evening dating, let alone have kids!

No, what you meant to think was, “this will be great for big dogs!”

Yeah. I was going to replace my current DD SVT Focus with a BRZ.
I drove three of them, and decided I didn’t like the stiff ride, lack of space, and how easily to back steps out on you. I wanted very much to love that car, but in the end I went for a much more practical choice.
More on that later...

Eventually you will make it to middle age and get to buy silly cars just for the Hell of it.
Almost makes up for the fact that getting out of bed hurts most mornings.
