It’s on my to-do list, but while I’m good at designing parts, I don’t currently have the equipment to build any at the moment. I really want to make some parts for serious weight reduction. Most CF hoods I’ve seen are actually fiberglass with a CF beauty ply that are way thicker than they need to be so they aren’t really lighter than a steel hood.
I would love to make some super lightweight doors. Definitely not easy, but I feel I could get rid of a lot of weight while maintaining or improving chassis rigidity.

With the proper resin and fiber you can make CF parts much more flexible and compliant than most people think. So you could definitely make lighter suspension components, but it would be best to re-engineer the attachments and design a bit to better optimize things for CF construction.
The heaviest suspension components that I recall are the hubs and the cast lower arms. You could feasibly do the lower arm, but you could probably get 80-90% of that weight reduction by using aluminium or steel at a fraction of the cost so it probably isn’t worth it.

Yeah, I was actually thinking about using a 3D printer to make lower arms in plastic, make a sand cast, then make it out of cast aluminum. The hub could get complicated because of the tolerances needed for the bearing, but I’d like to do something similar there.

I currently work for a firestop manufacturer as a product development engineer. There are 3 or 4 in the US, so it shouldn’t be hard to figure out which one.
My last job was for a avionics company in SE PA. I probably purchased parts from you at one time or another. 38999s were my jam, though a lot of our parts were custom, EMI-filtered connectors.

Ugh. Layoffs suck. My old place went through a couple rounds and then they closed the office; I could’ve gone to Houston or Midland, but didn’t want to move. Thankfully I landed on my feet at a start-up - loving it so far. My wife actully worked in the blue coveralls for a while - first job out of college. She was a field engineer on a wireline truck, getting calls in the middle of the night to drive hours to location. She’s much happier now - reserves manager at an small independent.
