In our exploration of international car stats we go below sea level and alight in the Netherlands (not Holland, we note), land of windmills, dikes, boys with their fingers in dikes, cheese and brown cafés where you can buy funny stuff to smoke. It’s also the land of the late Vincent van Gogh, a painter whom the Americans are pleased to pronounce as “Vango”whereas it’s actually “fon Choch”...er “fon Hoh”...oh, just watch !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! or if you’re geographically restricted !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

However we’re here to see what the Dutch buy to drive around in and courtesy of duurtlang I’ve found the answer for the 9 m/e September.

So, do the Dutch share the European love for the Golf? Has anybody there asked whatever question it is that Subaru is the answer to? Is it obligatory to wear clogs? To which the answers are (1) yes, kind of, (2) hardly anyone and they don’t do Honda either and (3) not yet.

So to the cijfers for the Top Ten:

Renault Clio

Golf

Peugeot 308

Polo

VW Up

Kia Picanto

Fiesta

Peugeot 108

Renault Captur

Opel Corsa

We conclude then that the Dutch really like - or are fiscally coerced into liking - small cars with nothing bigger than a Golf in the Top Ten.

We have to go to No. 29 to find a Dutch built car, the Mini (limited production started in the old DAF plant in 2014). Finding a Subaru needs a much deeper dive to No. 133 to find the Forester. Overall Subaru have a market share of 0.2%, just below Jeep.

Have a picture by and of Vincent van G, now that you’ve learned how to say his name properly.

Kinja'd!!!

Have also a Dutch Mini at the factory where it was, er, Born.

I see you managed to navigate that website. There’s a ton of easily-accessible information there.

...which is more than you can say for the UK. They charge for anything more than the basics.

Good read, but may I just point out that your Youtube video isn’t available in America? Might want to try a different one to appease us Yanks.

And here I was, with those damn Brits lying to me with their ridiculous Dr Who episode.

Also, that video is hilarious.

When you cross the Atlantic, things change.

van Gogh is pronounced van-go, like it looks. Just as Renault is pronounced as Ren-alt. A Seat is a place to sit down.

See, we make everything easy. (Still can’t figure how Chevro-let got bastardized into Chevro-lay). :)
