Today was my day off, so instead of sitting around home all day by myself, I decided to capitalize on the decent weather and go out for a little solo paddle.
Today’s trip I went to one of the local manmade lakes, Woodcock Creek Lake. It’s an Army Corps of Engineers site about ten minutes from me, and it’s an easy destination to load up and go to.
I decided today to try and take in some of the fall colors, and I was not disappointed.
I also decided to go up on the one bank to scout out the area some and see what I could find. The area I’m in here is not far off of a campground, so there’s not a whole lot of space until you’re in the campground, but there are quite a number of manmade and game trails that just go everywhere.
This here is the remnants of the actual road that came through here before the creek was dammed up in order to form the lake. Occasionally it’s a lot harder to get to as the water will rise and cover it. Sometimes, the water gets so low that much of the roadbed is visible across the entire lake.
The road disappears into the woods. It then continues for about two miles where it ends at a public access game lands entrance. At times, it’s little more than a somewhat paved path, at other times it opens up to about the width of a normal lane and a half wide road.
I think I must have had the exposure turned up on accident, this picture came out pretty bright for some reason.
I followed the road until I came across a hunting shack. At this point I was about 250 yards from someone’s pickup. As the archery/muzzleloader season is currently in, I decided this was a good point to turn around as I figured the truck belonged to a hunter and I did not want to be disrespectful.
Here you can see where the road disappears into the lake. It’s amazing that the road is actually in fairly decent condition as it’s usually under water.
I know the pictures are pretty rough, but I took them with a cheap digital camera I use for something like this, if anything happens to it then it was not a major investment. Every now and then it manages to take a fairly decent picture, but at times even it’s rough quality makes some interesting shots. I am hoping to eventually get myself a GoPro Hero, and I will be able to take better quality pictures.

Do it! I have been kayaking for some time now, but I finally bought my own this year. I love it. It’s a ton of fun, especially when you go with friends like I usually do. It can also be a cheaper hobby if you do it right.

I really enjoy kayaking; I just need to actually find the time to go more frequently.
I’d also love to get my own boat, or rather, build one. I have my eye on a CLC Chesapeake kit for when I actually get around to getting my own (hopefully not
too
much longer)

Nice! That’s not a bad looking boat at all.
I’ve been around boats almost all my life. My family has restored a few boats, like the pontoon boat we used for a few seasons. We literally pulled it out of the weeds and it was nothing more that a frame and tanks. We also restored a 14’ Smoker Craft fishing boat. It doesn’t get used often but it is great for some bass/panfish fishing. I also love my Kayak and it has seen a ton of use this year. You know the funny thing? I love boats and being out on the water, but I swim like a rock.
