Regardless whether you think a running engine will ignite fumes, at least pay attention so you dump fuel all over the ground. This was a 2008 Road Glide, so it only has a five gallon tank. Pay attention.
I don’t even have any custom paint on my motorcycle and I hover over it while fueling.

Cobb County firefighters credited a customer at a gas station with potentially saving the life of a middle-age man who caught fire when his motorcycle ignited at the pump Thursday.
The customer, Billy Houston, told us the motorcycle’s blaring music prevented the 53-year-old man from hearing Houston’s warning that fuel was pooling by his motorcycle, which was running at a Chevron on Trickum Road at Shallowford Road just after 8 a.m.
Houston then saw the motorcycle and the man ignite, and he ran to assist as the man crawled away, taking off a sweater and using it try to smother the fire.
“There was a lot of screaming. He was panicking. He was on fire,” Houston told Channel 2. “I was just trying to help … to do my part.”
Looks to have been a custom Street Glide Bagger.

I’m guessing that a really good song was on and he didn’t want to interrupt it by moving the igntion switch from ON > OFF > ACC.
I would love to know what song it was. By the looks of the custom, and his age (mid 50s), I’m guessing AC/DC.

The most common cause of gas pump fires is people getting back into their cars while fueling. When they get back out to remove the pump, they’ve created enough static to potentially cause a spark to jump to their car, right where all the fumes are.
I had to watch like a dozen surveillance videos of people dying that way as part of my training for my first job.

We only ask you to pay attention for brief periods of time during the day. Fueling up is one. The other one is while driving.
If most don’t do the 2nd, can’t expect them to do the first either.
Sometimes I think saving people like that is a disservice to humanity.

I once had to yell at a woman to turn off her Infiniti (probably had push button start) when she was pumping gas but she said she couldn’t because her child was in the car (and it was cold). I even told her it was state law and she still wouldn’t.

It amazes me the people that don’t have the common sense to realize that fueling a car is actually a fairly dangerous task. Or maybe they do realize how dangerous it is and the cigarette helps them relax, who am I to say?

I have no idea what those guys are doing to those Road glides. They’re all different and they all look like sportbike lenses in there.
