And why is she advertising for a 1959 Lincoln? If I was to get someone to advertise for a luxury car her name would not be Igor.

Igor Cassini’s third wife . Daughter of Charles Bierer Wrightsman, oil executive and patron of the arts.

Igor was her husband’s name. He was a famous journalist who coined the phrase “Jet set.” Women used to go by their husbands’ first/last names after “Mrs.”

Her actual name was Charlene Stafford Wrightsman and she ended up committing suicide in 1963.

Please tell me this ridiculous ad can be found easily in original print and perhaps enlarged. Your exact model and color combination? What a find.

Oh lawks, her husband was completely ridiculous.

Yikes. That is unfortunate but I had no idea the name came with so many laurels.

Igor’s brother Oleg was vaguely (very vaguely) responsible for this:

Not quite exact. The car does not have my Capri’s two tone color and the shape might be slightly off but I could be wrong there as mine has faded.

Easy to find and probably easy to print off the ad! And yikes that is one hideous car.

I noticed one other thing that may be an option, may be something else - the one in the ad is pillarless, and I don’t think yours is. It does have four doors and the correct rear window, both of which exist as variations on Premiere series and related models. The original color of the ad and the original color on yours were probably meant to be the same, though - leaving off accents.

I could check the code again on my car but I am fairly certain mine is pillar-less. I saw a 58 pillared Lincoln and it looked quite a lot different than mine.

And even more vaguely responsible for this.

Oh, okay. I was probably remembering wrong, because I don’t own the car or anything and haven’t seen it in person.

How have I never heard of Carlos Romulo? Further, why was the writer of the sentence with “dramatically
simple
lines” not struck dead by lightning?

I haven’t hear of him either and as a student of history that makes me a little sad. This man seems quite remarkable and anyone who was a statesman and drove a Lincoln was a total bad ass. His house is so regal and the Lincoln looks so damn good in black.

Hmm. I always thought female Igors were called Igorina.

Compared to what Cadillac and Imperial were doing in 1959, Lincoln was fairly subdued. Lincoln buyers at the time did tend to be more conservative than those of the other domestic luxury brands, and the lack of significant tailfins was cited in customer surveys as one of Lincoln’s attractions.

A valid point. Lincoln’s designers were in a tighter box, but in some respects that seems to have made them more wild within the constraints, and hyperactive. Like a rabid ferret.
