In October 1944, the first Boeing XC-97 is rolled out of the Boeing factory. This prototype would later become the C-97 transport, KC-97 tanker, and B377 Stratocruiser. Note the camouflage on the building, and the trees on the roof. During the war, the Boeing plant was covered with fake trees, houses and roads to make it hard to see from the air should the Japanese manage to attack the American homeland.

That camo is amazing. Had never seen it before so, naturally, I did a little digging. Pretty incredible how they did all that.

Crazy, right?
Seems silly in hindsight, since all the Japanese attacked was amusement parks.

Bloody hell. There’s camouflage and then there’s that. That’s amazing. I thought I could make out a hanger or something then realised it was the whole thing. That took some thought.
