Way back in the early 90’s when I still lived in Colorado Springs, I was always trolling used car lots looking for interesting cars. One afternoon I stopped by a Chevy dealer’s used lot, and while walking around it out of the corner of my eye I saw what my brain recognized as an orange Saab 99 EMS sedan. As I got closer to it, I realized it wasn’t a Saab at all, but it was something I’d never seen before.
It was a Renault 12TL. Pictured is a TS, but it’s the closest I could find in the right color. This thing was in absolutely perfect condition. It wasn’t rusty either, because Colorado. The interior was like new. I loved it. I didn’t have the money to buy it, which is probably a good thing because it probably would have ruined my finances keeping it running. I’ve never seen another R12 since. I’m curious what other opponauts have seen when out lot crawling.

Our local Chysler/Jeep/Dodge dealer just sold an Alpina B7, if that counts.

I once spotted an old Impala drag car sitting on the lot at our local Subaru dealer. Unfortunately it belonged to one of the managers, and was not for sale.

I saw this yesterday. Amazing condition. The plate said unicorn.

Yeah, I’d say so. I’ve only seen 2 Alpinas ever.

I haven’t seen that generation of RX7 in a while. I’ve seen more of the 1st-gen than those.

go to Romania. ‘rare’ is a over statement. (dacia bought the tooling and continued to mazke this car as a the dacia 1300 and the sucessor, 1310) until 2006. My grandpa has one actually. I kinda want to bring it to canada

I didn’t even know that Renault ever sold them here. I’ve seen lots of 18’s, Fuegos, and LeCars, plus the ones they actually sold in decent numbers in the 80’s like Encores and Alliances. But that’s the only 12 I’ve seen.

Well, to be fair, they didn’t buy the tooling which the French didn’t need anymore and produced a car that was considered obsolete in Western Europe (like it happened with other East-West joint-ventures). Dacia built Renaults even before the 12, so when Renault developed the 12 to be especially rugged, they already had Dacia in mind. The Romanians even started production several months before the French, giving the French time to even out problems should the Romanians encounter any.

I saw a Subaru Brat Friday night on highway 100 in Milwaukee. I also saw an FB and FD rx7.

This Citroën 11A Coupe (aka Faux-Fabriolet) can be sometimes spotted in a completely normal parking area in Helsinki. The sedan version isn’t terribly rare car but Coupe model is. There are around 10 examples left of ~100 that were produced in 30’s.

There is a guy in Denver who owns some warehouses - he has a collection of Renaults. I remember him having several rear engined models, but also an R16, an R12, and Le Car.
Old post is old, but I just came across this. I also remember a very small lot in Colorado Springs that usually had some interesting cars hiding behind a fenced in area - Saab 96, Renault Le Car, stuff like that. The unusual, but not quite rare stuff.
