So with the first snow falling today here in NW PA, I learned this morning that my Hella 500FF’s are nearly useless when there is too much of the stuff falling. The light all just bounces off and you can’t see anything. As I do not want to remove them, I think they will be covered most of the winter.
I’m looking to see if anyone has any suggestions for a way to protect them. I do still have the Hella covers that came with them, and they will be going on. I would also like to find some sort of vinyl covering that would go entirely over the light. I found a few KC covers, but they only cover the face of the light, and not the housing.
I’d also like to be able to use the lights when I can, so easy removal is a plus. The lights are just under 6.5” in diameter, and about 3” deep. If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated!

I saw a guy who had small, drawstring cloth bags over his to protect the whole housing. They looked like they were a thicker, maybe waterproof type nylon of some sort... And that is a nice Ranger - I really like that pusher bar set up. Its useful when you need to push something/etc but isn’t huge, super heavy and in the way.

Thank you! It’s come a long way from the shape it was in when my dad drove it

I might have to try to find something like that, thanks! The pushbar was custom fabbed for me by a good friend. I wanted it for a little bit of steel insurance against deer etc. Trust me though, it’s a lot heavier than it looks haha.

I just keep the hard covers on;
It’s actually law here to have opaque covers when not in use..
It would suck to have Lightforces and have to cover them up.. not sure how they will address LED bars either.

I like PA’s laws on covering lights: Lights have to be covered while not in use if they are above the windshield. (or headlight line, I can’t recall. Either way mine do not have to be covered.) Driving lights, like mine are, can only come on with the highbeams, as mine do. I have never been bothered about my lights, but I always keep the covers with me just in case. They also comply with inspection laws, which I inspect my own vehicle anyhow, so it will never fail because of my Hellas.

Here in BC no lights allowed ‘on-road’ above 1.6m (~3.4ft) so CBI ditch lights are about as high as you can go.
If you are offroad you can use whatever you like, but keep them covered on pavement.
I like my 500F (and 700FF on the subaru) because the 55w bulbs are legal for highway use as long as they are through the hi-beams.
In the past the MOT have put road checks up during a rally transport stages and ticketed all the rally cars with open lights.. :(
