And it’s one hell of a complicated thing!! A 1974 Citroen DS23 IE Pallas (injection ones)!!

Yes I found the solution to get this insane piece of engineering back on the road!

The culprit was the (translated straight from french) “corrector of de-clutching in”. Yes, that’s the exact translation of this insane module that blocked the car around 2000rpm even though the pedal was slammed to the floor. Good luck figuring the problem by yourself if you’re not french and can’t read french tech books on the car lol

After today, I honestly feel proud of myself lol.

Maybe a review of the car later on?

And the culprit...

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Nothing better than the smell of burnt LHM in the morning!

I mended something!!!!!!! Yes! That was 8 hours ago and I’m still freaking proud of myself lol

I prefer the Familia rx3 that stands over it, but if I were to choose i’d take the Nissan 510 SSS that’s coming in tomorrow :p

so, is that like some sort of wired auxiliary rev-limiter that’s supposed to keep the engine from over revving while the clutch is depressed, like no-lift-shift?

Not at all... it b basically controls the smoothness of the clutch, but if badly setup, it blocks the butterfly from the throttle body from opening over a certain amount.

The whole thing is here to be setup so that the car shifts more of less smoothly lol

ahhh, that does sound more like something a DS would have... A smoothshifterator.

Aren’t there DS shop manuals in English? You’d at least think so since these were sold in English speaking countries. Unless the Citroen dealer mechanics had to take a mandatory French language course before getting the job, that is (which I can totally imagine Citroen doing).

We had 2 English workshop books and none talked about this module... injection ds23 are the very last DS to come out and are often omitted in most books, even though they are mentioned on the title lol....

Also I’m in Japan, so whether it’s in french, English or Hebrew, it doesn’t really matter to them, 99% of the population can’t speak anything else other than Japanese.

if it were in Hebrew, I could probably help...
Hmm...it would be cool to have Hebrew shop manuals for cars. I’ll have to ask some Israeli mechanic friends.

Also, off-topic, we just returned from a vacation in Japan, and I’d love to compare notes sometime. I’ll try to organize some of my car pics for posting...what a fantastic trip!

I think an article about Japanese collector attitudes towards French cars might be interesting. American attitudes tend to be “I bought it because it was weird” or “My uncle had one when he lived in France and I could never forget how cool it was so I got one too”. It would be neat to find out what the Japanese enthusiasts find appealing about them.

I live here, so it’s usually a bit of a different experience when you just go visit the country for a couple of weeks and actually live there. And go ahead with the car pics! Always fun stuff to look at here :)

Mostly the design of the cars and their technological advancement for the time. All the people that are into french cars here tend to be quite older (60+ years old) and I,m definitly an oddity here, being a 31 year old guy who enjoys cars that are sometimes twice older than him... Citroen specialists are VERY expensive here too, so all those peopel tend to be quite wealthy.

My friend told me about a DS he bought 5 years ago... He didn’t have time to get it back on its wheels, so he asked one of those specialist to change all the fluids and fix a couple of minor stuff: 700.000yen bill. Needless to say he found the time to do it himself lol

I have an old issue of Car Graphic from the late 70s, and there is a full page ad for a Citroen Birotor in it. I wonder if that car is still in Japan and how much it must be worth now.

The GS rotary are RARE. I’d love to bring one back here though... I’d show it to my rotary man who takes care of my RX7, I’m sure he’d love to see it :)
