I need it.

Yeah, my co-worker took me in a ride in his yesterday. First time I’ve really actually had trouble getting into and out of a car. I couldn’t even believe how low it felt when we were cruising around, crazy experience. It also tore my face off with cornering grip and braking.

The want is growing. Your description reminds me of the time I got to sit in an Alfa 4C. I’m not what you would call tall but even I had trouble getting into the driver’s seat. Massive door sill. I had never had trouble getting into a car until then.

“mini”
![]() 10/17/2015 at 01:04 |

Yeah, it sounds very similar! huge sills to step over. I’m 5’8” so i’m not very tall and at most you’d call me “chubby” but I felt like a giant in the Elise.
My co-worker was like “OK, here’s the deal, the load bearing parts of the car are the seat, the floor and the sill. Dont put weight on the door or the roof when you’re getting in or out.” I totally smacked my knee on the underside of the roof when i was getting in. Not something i’ve ever experienced before.

We just needed another spot and a first gen mini to park next to it to complete the effect.

Wow we’re the same height and build. That sounds kind of nice. I quite like the feeling of being snug and cozy in a car.
That’s just crazy in the best way. Although I wouldn’t want to have to explain that to friends when before giving them rides. They’re going for a reasonable price now too.....dammit.

I could probably Park all of these in the bed of my truck :D

Yeah it definitely made me want one, the cornering and the sheer closeness to the ground were just exhilarating. Pretty sure the guy with the yellow one in the picture bought his because of the same co-worker who gave me a ride in his yesterday (pictured below.)
I’ve never been a big fan of bright colors on cars, but as my co-worker explained, having a tiny car 2 inches off the ground that’s asphalt colored means that EVERYONE is out to run into you. Apparently he just gets cut off all the time by soccer moms checking their cellphones.

O_O I thought the one in the pic was lime green. I wish my work had cool car people. He makes a good point though. I never thought of that. And what a coincidence I found a typical Lotus yellow Elise for 35,000 on craigslist locally. Good thing I don’t have the cash for it right now hahaha.
Although for 35,000 I would have trouble with deciding between the Lotus or an e30 M3 I’ve been eyeing up on eBay recently.

Now
that
is something i’d pay to see.....

You’re correct, i’m just dumb/blind/tired. Its definitely lime green. E30 M3s are awesome, I’d have a hard time deciding as well. The Bimmer is definitely classier, but i’m sure the Lotus would offer more raw thrills.
Another co-worker used to own an E30 M3 and he insists that it was one of the purest driving experiences he’s ever had (also owned an E36 M3, an Evo and currently drives a 912, which we endlessly make fun of for being a glorified Beetle.) There’s a pretty nice LS swapped E30 on my local CL that I both kind of love and hate. I mean, its really a pretty big middle finger to all the purists out there, but at the same time its very very clean and the price is right.....

As for my work, yeah i’m pretty sure we have the most Jalop parking lot in the country. I work at Turn 10 studios, so cars are a shared passion.

Your parking lot looks like a mini cars and coffee meet.
Also that's badass that you work at T10. Can you hook it up with a free copy of FM6? (I kid, I kid... Unless you can, of course.)

Who left their tennis ball in the parking lot?

I am deciding between keeping my car in a year and getting a 25-29k caterham or trade it all in for an R8. I think I need caterham. I know I need caterham.

The lady friend loved the sills for her purse and cell phone. I hated the sills for I looked like a fool upon entry and exit.

for full effect , need park it next to the Youabian Puma.

Put one next to this

That's pretty crazy. I remember seeing an Elise next to a 4C at Cars & Coffee and the Elise made the Alfa look huge. I can't believe the Caterham is smaller.

Yeah, the parking lot is always fun, it's a good mix of expensive metal and cheaper but nicely modified stuff. I wish I could hook people up with free copies of the game, but alas I'm too low on the totem pole to wield that kind of power.....

It’s pretty much the hardest of the hard core. R8s are awesome...buuuttt man. Caterham. It’s all in, 100 percent about driving fun. I love the uncompromising nature of it.

I did manage to avoid falling on my ass, but that's really about the only dignified thing I can say about me getting in and out of the Elise. I'm sure practice would help.

It's like....I want to see one irl, but I also kind of don't want to see one.

Lol! Also, mmmmmmmm...

Heh, those higher up guys always park their exotic stuff in that area. Every now and then we get some joker parking amongst them in something that just doesn’t quite fit. The other day it was a bright green Volvo from the late seventies, granted the Volvo was in fantastic condition, but it was boxy and probably had less than 100hp.

DD - Lotus
Track - Caterham
Burn - Mini

Yeah, it's amazing what you don't need in a car when you get right down to it.

Hard to argue with that! The true jalop answer.....
![]() 10/17/2015 at 12:48 |

A couple of other cars i’ve seen down there recently. Supra is a Turbo, the owner is super cool and loves 80’s Toyotas. The Pathfinder behind it is also incidentally, absurdly clean.

Yeah I’ve never driven an e30 M3 but was lucky enough to ride shotgun in one during a blast through some canyon roads during a sunrise. Most amazing experience ever. It was so raw and intense. The induction sound from the semi-independent throttle bodies sounded like a mini McLaren F1.
That swap looks interesting. LS-swap would be fun to go around town in. I think I would miss the high revving nature of the original engine on track though.
Oh man that’s the most Jalop lineup I’ve ever seen haha.
