I like the Challenger’s technique of charging into the intersection when it turns green (2:11). You can tell by the way he slows down half-way through that he’s ready to brake if necessary. He has no interest in causing a collision. He’s showing everyone who’s got the right-of-way, and trying to intimidate any red-light runners into staying the fuck put.

The maneuver would have been even better if he had blown the horn.

I try to avoid charging forward, but I’m sure as hell not above using my horn:

Sometimes I’m not as quick to sound off as I should be. But I’m working on it. A lot of these drivers try to sneak through and get away with it. But if more green-lit traffic used their horns in these situations, it might embarrass the runners and maybe, just maybe, they would think twice next time.

There’s no shame in charging forth on green. Drivers need to understand that running a red light is a good way to cause a wreck. Charging forth helps to highlight the possibility.

I’m not advocating trying to make the wreck happen. I just want them to have a close call that will reduce their confidence in the safety of running red lights.
