"Logansteno: Bought a VW?" (logansteno)

I need one baaaad.
Got to drive my aunt’s ‘08 328i and absolutely fell in love. It feels quicker, tighter, and better handling than my M3 even with the roof cut off and open. The only complaint I had was there’s a bit of dead zone on initial throttle tip-in, and I couldn’t see the radio screen through my polarized sunglasses. Overall 12/10 would buy one in a couple years.

You could buy an E92 in a few years. Yes. That’s one of the things you could do. Or. YOU COULD PUT AN S65 AND A SIX SPEED MANUAL IN YOUR M3! YOU COULD DO THAT INSTEAD!!!

I'd feel so dirty tearing the S52 out. Plus I want the E9xs lovely interior.

Given I can count them on my two hands, no. I am only 17 after all.

I’d advise you not to form such conclusive opinions on cars when you have so little to compare them to. Then you might do something rash, like actually buy that car.

Ok. Though there are worse cars to form such “conclusive” opinions on than an E9x 3-series.

By that logic there’s also a plethora of cars that are better to form opinions on that you’ve never driven.

You're right, but out of the cars I have driven but out of the cars I've driven this is the opinion I've formed on this car. If we followed your logic we'd never form opinions of cars.

Why not get E85 instead? It’s cheaper...

Nice vert, but if I were getting an E9x, I’d get a 335IS. But I can totally see the want.

I'd be torn between the 335i and 328i. On one hand more performance, on the other a bit more reliable motor.

After putting over 100 miles on our work Cummins, I realize I need torque. I NEED IT. Bumping the throttle a bit and arriving magically at 85 from 55 to pass an 18 wheeler on the interstate is magical. I just need forced induction in my life. So the 335 is an easy choice for me.

Out of curiosity, what is the minimum number of cars you have to drive to form an opinion on a certain car?

Eh, I still have yet to actually test drive a car before I’ve bought it.
Take from that what you will.

I think he’s just trying to say that as a dude that drives an E36 M3, you should go drive an E90/E92 M3....with the roof. Just for a drive.
Sublime.
People bash the F80 too, but christ that thing is fast, and dat chassis balance. I love modern performance cars.

I don’t think that’s what he’s trying to say at all, but I won’t turn down driving an E9x M, roof or not. I’m not imagining anyone handing a 17 year old the keys to a 400 horsepower sports sedan any time soon though.

E93’s are boats. Really the entire E9- range is. Pick up a 135i used for cheap and hoon that thing. They can be had for a song nowadays and are a much purer BMW experience.

Calling the E9x chassis a boat, that’s a first in my book. Feels just as light and toss-able as my E36 imo.

That convertible hardtop adds 400+ lbs over the weight of the coupe. Inexcusable, in my mind, for a sports car.

Good thing it was never intended to be a sports car. Sports sedan, sure. But to be held to the same standards as a Boxster or Corvette is silly. To me it's nothing more than a luxury car with a well-sorted chassis and a lovely straight 6 motor.

I’ve owned an E46 sedan, an E90 sedan, an E92 coupe, and now an F22 coupe. The E90s are by far the heaviest and most wallowy of the bunch. The F chassis cars cut serious weight from the E chassis for a reason.

Well, it’s what I’m saying. Verts are cool, but just saying if you drive something with a roof you’ll probably be blown away.
