I’ve made a lot of noise about this car around here, so I thought I’d watch the longest (35 minutes) road test I could find. The only relevant experience I have was my time with a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! recently. I note that the interface looks much improved in the SS, but the car has the same fussy cruise control switch on the wheel. Minor nitpicking.
And my question to myself is: would I put my money where my mouth is if I needed a car and buy one?
Yes. Yes I would.

I desperately want one with a manual.

He just might be boring enough to get the job. But don’t think for a minute I didn’t like the thoroughness. And did I zone out, or did he not say much about the brakes?

He brought up a few specs but not a lot of info.

I like the idea of big brakes on a car. I really like the idea of ceramic brakes, but that’s not gonna happen in this segment.

It sounds good. Did you read the SS / E39 M5 comparison?

Yes - all I can say is drive them both, then make your decision. For me, buying a new Chevy would be imitating my dad from the late 60s and early 70s - order an Impala and live with the result. For me, I’d have an SS with most of the options. And I’d negotiate with the dealership for a price in the low 40s. Very low.

With these, you’d better get them new, because they’ll be few enough (with the manual) that they’ll definitely hold their value.
Please get SSLEEPR for your license plate.

I’d take a regular tag, thanks - I want NOTHING that a cop can ID. I might even remove the SS badging.

Love a good Q ship.
I'm the same way with license plates, but love the idea of putting 8600RPM on mine!

A cousin is high up enough at GM to where they’ll let him have anything in the lineup as a company car. I tell him: Stingray! SS! And he gets another Lucerne. Sigh ....

Some years back I knew a lobbyist for Ford. I was out in the suburbs one weekend and showed him my ‘97 SHO. He had no idea what it was. He and his wife subsisted on a diet of Sable wagons for years. A lot of people who work for car manufacturers know next to nothing about the product.
And maybe he likes the Lucerne for the AWD - Michigan winters and all that.

Get one! I love mine! Just get rid of the Chevy badges, and it looks so much better.

If I could make the case for my own car, it’s what I’d have. But I only drive 3 or 4 times a year, and I refuse to keep a car on the street, so I’d be out of pocket 500 bucks a month for a garage space. Sigh ....

I would just prefer big brakes. Honestly most miles would be commuting. I haven’t heard good things about ceramic brakes and commuting.

I thought the main issue was overheating on a track, but what do I know?
