Wrote this a while back, on another forum. Was reminded of it recently. Not trying to argue that one or the other is the “right” choice; I think it great that we have the choice (and I sure as hell wouldn’t want to hand write everything I ever wrote...)

Typing is quicker, and you get the exact same response each time you press a key, because a computer is taking the input and giving the same response each time. You can adjust the font and the letter size in the computer, but it’s still a single input and a single output. And now, if you choose to, you don’t actually have to type at all (with dictation software).
Handwriting, while a bit slower, allows for much more variation and finesse. A calligrapher can make it a true art form (like Ayrton Senna could with three pedals). You can write slowly and precisely, or quickly and sloppily, but it’s all up to you and your mood at the time, or your desire to get it perfect. It’s a learned skill that can be honed to a fine edge through many years of practice and experience.
I think most people who love driving a manual enjoy not only the involvement of using all four limbs between steering wheel, shifter and pedals, but also the satisfaction of learning to do something well over a lifetime of driving.
Dual clutch transmissions are arguably better in every measurable way, but some of us will keep practicing and perfecting our “cursive” as long as our hands (and feet) are able.

But if you’re left-handed, you’ll always drag your hand/sleeve through the ink or pencil of whatever you’re writing and smudge it everywhere. But anyway, good parallel.

I still prefer typing to handwriting, though I love flaunting my nice handwriting to my friends who write like preschoolers (we’re in college).
So just like manual transmissions, really.

Leftie here, can confirm. Either you twist your wrist like a weirdo, hover your hand in the air, or you use a post-it note to keep from smearing.

So an automatic is voice recognition and a CVT is a neural interface.
I think that works...

But then you have to move the sticky note.

You put the sticky note on your hand, you silly goose.

Now, if there was truly a transmission that knew what gear you wanted as soon as you thought it...
Automatics, like dictation, get it wrong from time to time.

But then your hand is all sticky.
jk. That’s actually a good idea.

Art teacher actually taught us that. Works for right-handers too that don’t want to smear their work.

My art teacher never told me any good tips.

He only told us in the AP Art class. I had him for Art 1A in 11th grade summer school going into 12th grade and he skipped me straight to AP Art. Dude completely changed personalities from not-giving-a-damn, to straight out Bob Ross.

Did you say Bob Ross?
