So, funny things happen when you want to put Bluetooth in a car that wasn’t designed for it from the factory. Almost like it was designed to reject it. This is my new project. Maybe some of you will find it interesting, other may find it to be a ghastly waste of time. After being at it for 6 hours today, my fucks have been spent. I’m also not done.
The plan is to take an Aukey BR-C1 Bluetooth module and hard wire it into the 12v on the roof of my car. I want it to look like it isn’t really there though. So, I took the plastic insert for the microphone for a car phone (you know, the kind that used to permanently reside in the cars for old white men that do golf) and drilled a hole for the microphone and cut through the slats to accept the plastic button from the Bluetooth module. I tried and failed to unsolder the mechanical button on the circuit board (tore up the copper imbedded on the circuit board). Oh well, ordering another one. I ripped apart a cigarette lighter adapter for a phone and I’ll be hardwiring that. I ran an audio cable from the trunk through the backseat, up the c-pillar and above the roof to the center light consol in the front of the car. Ordered a dsp converter so I can jack in where the cd changer would have been.
I’m gonna try and do a proper write up when I get a chance. Until then, here are pics.

Looks like a nice challenge. Much more technical than I anticipated. Hopefully it works out!

Interesting project. I eventually caved and bought a Grom Bluetooth adapter that pretends to be a CD changer to hook up to my 2003 vintage stereo. It’s really convenient.

Make sure you have a decent 12v converter, I’ve had the cheap ones burn out pretty quickly and that would be really annoying if it was hardwired.

Yeah, I looked at that one too but opted for the one I got because they essentially do the exact same thing but it costs a bit less (on fleabay)

Hmm, are you talking about something other than a cigarette adapter style?

I’m taking lots of pictures so I hope to have a good timeline style write up later. I haven’t seen any installs like this with my stereo. E39source has some good ones but with the type of stereo I have they always say “buy a newer stereo that’s compatible with aux in.” Those decks are a couple hundred dollars usually on eBay.

No those are fine, just some are really cheaply made, ie nothing more than a resistor as opposed to using something like a switching regulator.

That will be cool. Looking forward to reading it.
