I’ve been in Italy. I saw:

No Ferrari.

No Lamborghini

One Maserati

About a dozen original 1960s Fiat Cinquecenti

About the same number of Ford Foci

No current Ford Mondeos (Italy does not into Ford)

A surprising number of Chevrolet/Daewoos

No American Chevrolets (Italy does not into these either)

about a thousand Lancia Ypsila

A similar number of Piaggio Api

14,626 Mk1 Fiat Pande

Yes, I take a rather pretentious view of Latin, Greek and Italian plurals.

Have an Ape.

did you see any Lancia Thema’s? Reall curious if any one actually bought those.. It’s the Chrysler 300 with Lancia badges on it, in case you are wondering.

I wonder if Italian people think all Americans drive large muscle cars.

I saw a few of the original 1990s Themas. Didn’t notice any of the new ones. I think I may have seen one of those Lancia/Chrysler people carrier thingies, the name of which I forget or more likely never knew.

Edit: Lancia Voyager

Maybe so. They certainly don’t buy anything like that themselves or at least not in remote and far-from-affluent SE Italy.

(Italy does not into Ford)

An Ape, and a Ford C-Max.

Also, the following is a clear sign the area you stayed in was, like you mentioned, far from affluent.

14,626 Mk1 Fiat Pande

well that’s still very sweet. The Thema 8.2 has always been an and auto of intrigue to me. I feel with the FWD lay out with a Ferrari based (though different, but the same) V8. It seemed like it would have a lot of character. If not very unreliable too. never the less, even the none 8.2 models are pretty sweet, why settle of a Alfa 164 when you can have a Thema! haha

so said the fate that became Lancia. Do we know if sergio has any productive plans for the brand? I say a dodge/lancia cross over $WD turbo monster to fight WRX and Focus RS would be sweet! VIVA LA LANCIA DELTA!!!

Yes, I was wondering if anyone would notice!

You don’t see them. The odd Fiesta here and there but that’s about it. You’d see several dozen Lancias or Alfas for every Ford and even more Mk1 Pande which are everywhere.

The Italians must be the only people to buy the Alfa Giulietta which is a relatively common sight.

Sergio says (that is he says today, he says different things from one day to the next) that future Lancias will be sold only in Italy. I can’t imagine how that would be profitable so I expect the end is near.

Also a sign of a dry climate! They must be twenty or more years old and hardly a sign of rust. The 500s I saw were all in daily use.

We get a lot of people from Europe from my company at my office. And universally they all seem how most people just drive smaller calls here. Minus the suvs and trucks, which is what they all seem to think we drive. Of course over the summer one guy from Poland was shocked to see only about 10 muscle cars in the lot. I explained that even that was only because it was summer. Really though the general thought seems to be we all drive picks and suvs.

we all drive picks and suvs.

You don’t? What if I were to add Japanese sedans (which you also don’t see in Western Europe), would it be accurate then?

Honestly since Alpha is going all RWD Lancia should move into the premium FWD hatch market Alpha is currently in. They need something to compete in that market.

I’ve always thought the older Ypsilons were interesting cars...Punto-based, but they had a unique design.

Curiously and despite what I saw I now see that Ford are the second make in the Italian market, albeit a long way down from the inevitable no 1 (Fiat of course). The Fiesta is far and away their biggest seller.
