Ugh, this is where you get your reputation from, BMW drivers. Do people like this know how they look to everyone else? I can’t imagine walking out of a business lunch and seeing that my colleague or client did this. Inexcusable. /rant

For the record, it wasn’t even the nicest car in the parking lot.

If I saw a colleague or a client doing this, my interactions with them would be much different. For example, if it was a colleague who had an office, I would go in and sit on the floor between the chairs.

They know how they look to proles, they just straight up don’t care what they think. Shaming them also doesn’t work for this very reason. If someone confronts them they’ll slough it off then gossip amongst themselves about how some slovenly lady had the audacity to talk to them rudely when they were only inside for a minute and weren’t in anyone’s way. Oh, and they’ll happily pitch a fit about awful it is if someone in a more pedestrian vehicle parks the same way.

Downside of owning a flashy/luxurious car: If you’re a douchebag, people notice your douchebaggery a lot more than if you owned a normal car. I’m looking at you, winner in the Bentley who parked blocking one door to the stairs.

I interact with him as minimally as possible. We had a pretty big falling out during the housing collapse when he was bitching about how unfair things were and he was probably going to have to declare bankruptcy and I had the audacity to suggest that perhaps he should take the loss, sell his house and toys, move somewhere more affordable and not overextend himself in the future.

Humorously, he did end up avoiding bankruptcy (barely, he was riding every extension of unemployment for what seemed like years) by selling and moving, but he didn’t learn the third piece. Now that the economy is back on the upswing, they straight up live in opulence but have to budget their food down to the penny to prevent overdrawing at the end of each pay period. It’s just unfathomable to me.

It’s never occurred to me before, but M3 drivers and Harley drivers share a few similarities, in terms of the motive that their customers have. Harleys and M3s both have really enthusiastic customer bases who love them for being great rides - because they are genuinely good machines. On the other hand, are the uncreative poseurs who buy these vehicles because it looks cool to the people around them. Yuck. I like to believe that the people parking this way all fall into the second category.
