Not a day after my old Tipo came down with a severe case of blown engine, Fiat announces their new mid sized sedan will be called Tipo. The car will supposedly have hatchback and station wagon bodies as well, and it doesn’t look to shabby, to be honest.
It probably won’t be sold in Brazil though, thanks to our poor economic landscape.

That’s actually really, really, really good looking. Reminds me of the Skoda Octavia a bit.
Here’s hoping it comes to North America (It probably won’t)

Aww man that sucks to hear about your car, just read the post about it. Hope you get sorted out.

Fiat North America really needs the new Tipo. They need a 3 box sedan; however, I believe it was never intended/designed for our market.

200 chassis? I can’t see this being on the alfa/maser FR midsize chassis.

They’ve got the 200 and the Dart. Unless they badge engineer one or both of them you’re not going to see anything that goes straight against those two guys...cannibalism is generally frowned upon. I suppose there’s room for a big ol’ FWD sedan...but who wants that?

According to Wikipedia, it’ll be built on the same Opel/Fiat platform currently underpinning the most small Fiats and the latest Opels. I don’t think they’re considering a North American release though, with the 200 and Dart already on the market

I believe it’ll be sold only in Europe... not even Brazil seems to be getting this one.

Nice Skobaru (Subaroda?).

Bring the wagon - no cannibalizing

I am not sure how large the new Tipo is, but the Dart is a fairly large compact car and the 200 is a midsize. FCA could use a sub-compact car in the U.S. to compete against the Sonic and the Fiesta because right now they have nothing.

New? You mean a re-badged Chrysler 200 with slighlty different lights and bonnet...

I thought the Tipo was designed for other markets than Europe in mind. That they’re showing it as a sedan is a clear sign of that. Where I live, where the Golf is the #2 best selling vehicle in 2015, the Jetta has been discontinued . That should tell you something. Sedans that aren’t huge don’t sell here, at all.
Here’s a screenshot of the Dutch VW site. Note the presence of the Pheaton and the absence of the Jetta.

This is the Punto-based Linea replacement. It’s a stretched B-segment sedan.

Not gonna happen. As far as FCA is concerned, Fiat = 500, so every car we see from that brand in the US is going to be some kind of 500. We’re more likely to get a ‘500x2’ or something like the 500 crossover minus the ride height adjustment.

There’s no way it’s going to be that large. It’s either a subcompact, a compact or something in between.

Huh....the central part of the body looks very similar to the 200

Wikipedia (what else?) tells me the following:
Tipo sedan: 453 cm long, 264 cm wheelbase.
Chrysler 200: 488 cm long, 274 cm wheelbase.
Dodge Dart: 467 cm long, 270 cm wheelbase.
Based on these numbers, which seem plausible to me, it’ll be smaller than the Dodge Dart.

No. You’re thinking of the Fiat Viaggio/Ottimo. This one will be built on the Fiat/Opel small platform. Also, I mean new Tipo because there was an old Tipo, which also had nothing to do with the 200/Dart. Don’t worry man, it won’t be sold in North America.

Go figure. The press release says it was made for EMEA markets, so Europe, Middle East and Africa. There’s supposed to be a hatch and a wagon to go with the sedan as well, so there’s that.

Very very true. Hopefully the new head of Fiat North America will change that; otherwise, he will probably be in trouble with The Sweatered One like his recently demoted predicessor.

In Dutch news I read that Fiat is ‘contemplating’ bringing it to Western Europe. The previous small Fiat sedan, the Linea, was never offered here. I’m sure it’ll be sold in Italy, Eastern and Southern Europe though. Having a hatch and wagon will make it potentially viable in this market, assuming the execution is right.
