For 15 years I’ve had zero interest in the cars built by my people but then I learned that my favourite hot hatch (EP3 TYPE R CIVIC) is built here and since then I’ve had a change of heart. Now I’m lusting after old TVRs and Land Rovers. At this rate I’m gonna start drinking tea and watching soaps.

You’ve been wrong for 15 years, with the exception of most of BL British cars are awesome.

Agreed. For too long I though we just made Bentleys and Vauxhalls. It wasn’t until Test Drive Unlimited when I really started taking notice of everything else. There were so many fantastic British cars in that game.

I’ve still never owned british though, Japanese and German. I gotta rectify that with a Lotus eventually.

Or a Nissan. Leafs, Notes, Jukes and QashQais are made up in Sunderland and account for nearly two thirds of all cars made in the U.K. last year.
There are 35 U.K. Manufacturers of various sizes. So plenty of variety.

its a good platform, I’ve never driven one though. I thought about a 75 when I had enough of my MX-5 but went for a mk5 Golf GTI instead.

Also missing Rover

Not really. Rover died. The above companies are ones still going in one fashion or another. Not sure who has the rights to the Rover name. Ford bought the rights from BMW when Ford still owned Land Rover as they didn’t want the Chinese to tarnish the Rover brand which may have a knock on effect for Land Rover. The Chinese got the MG brand and bought all the MG Rover tooling and shipped it to China. The Rover 75 was rebranded as the Roewe 750 and the MG ZT the MG7.

It’s a shame they are gone.
Then a lot of companies have fallen by the wayside over the years but it’s also good that some of the very small companies haven’t pushed massively to expand and have maintained a loyal following and stayed the test of time.

yeah it is a shame, I don’t think the 75 got the love it deserved from the press

We had a 53 plate 1.8 75 Connoisseur, it was nice enough but the legroom in the rear was small and the legroom width wise in the front was small. Preferred the Rover 820si far more, the acceleration was ‘leisurely but sufficient’ while the ride was like travelling on a sofa. Soaked up the lupms and bumps.
