I’ve managed to have the most epic 3 days possible and I’m about to tell you about those 3 days now.
Friday:
Wake up - Go to work - Eat Torchys Taco’s for lunch (if you haven’t had torchys you don’t know what good is) Get off Work. Brap the grom home play forza 6 for 40 minutes until the woman gets home. Woman gets home and I leave for a 3 hour drive to Denton Texas.
Friday Night - Arrive at Northstar Drag way for the Armageddon No Prep Race. Leave with 55 dollars more than I drove in with including the 55 dollars it cost to get in and parking.
Saturday - Arrive at the track around 5PM and start to bet. Won a Nitrous Outlet 10lb Bottle with High flow valve in the raffle. Immediately hand the bottle to a buddy building a 441 LSX F body 10.5 car who won the last bottle to knock off some debt I had with him.
While a turbo car will be slower out of the hole (out of the hole = the time it takes to get moving or 60ft time) it will be a more progressive power build which makes it easier to keep traction the entire way down the track. Nitrous gives the exact opposite reaction. While a nitrous car will fly out of the hole it will be much slower on the big end (the big end = top of the track 330ft-660ft)
The 240sx shown above was very unique in the aspect of not only it having a 2jz that makes well over 1300 hp but the fact that this is one of the lightest cars to show up. It was also very consistent which isn’t a word that comes to mind when I think of 2jz powered drag cars. While there were no times shown this weekend this 240sx is going somewhere near 4.9-5.0 in the 1/8th mile ! If not faster!
The Camaro shown below won the big tire class but in a less than sportsman like type way. He made it to the finals against Doc (yea yea from the TV show) Me and two buddies had 500 total on Doc to win the race. While I’m far from a fan of Street Outlaws or Doc for that matter I’m a big fan of money and I don’t care if it was Pee Wee Herman racing Cornbread if Pee Wee had the faster car I’d be betting with him. Any how. Doc’s car knocked loose a sensor while in his burnout and wasn’t able to stage. Cornbread decided he’d rather make a pass and win the event that way which no one was thrilled about but if it means 25k in your pocket I think you’d do the same. I know I would.
Leave the track at 1:00AM Sunday morning with $405 dollar MORE than I left Austin with. We’re now including the 30 bucks in gas 40 in food 85 dollars for a new pair of shoes that’s $155 in Saturday spending while still profiting $405 !
Now your probably thinking how does one go to a drag strip and make enough money to be a manager at subway in 1 night. Bets . That’s it. That being said I’ve been going to these drag races since I was 10 years old and have a solid 15-16 years experience watching these types of races so to say I’m just guessing into the blue would be way off. Weighting the pro’s and cons of each race makes this easy for someone like myself but many people show up and have no idea what they’re doing (the same people who leave with empty pockets)
Returned to Austin Sunday around 1:00 PM checked the bank account and realized since the woman has now had a full time job for 2 months I’m saving money without even knowing it ! What do you do when you have 3k saved up ? Spend 900 like it’s not 1/3rd of your net worth that’s what lol . Went and bought a Miata ! 900 bucks for a beat to crap 1999 NB in purple. He wanted 1500 but after walking away he forced me to make an offer. So I said 900 and he took it. At the moment it’s horrible with ebay coil overs that are destroyed and massive stretched “Stance bro” Wheels in the rear. I’m going to make this a fun daily but first I need to get rid of the “stance” look and also a functioning suspension will be nice.
Pretty proud of my collection at the moment. 99 NB purple , 15 Grom White (Daily for now) , 98 Protege 70k Original Miles (daily for the woman) , LM4 5.3 Swapped 1976 280z blue.
