Volvo 850 turbo wagon is on its last legs. Need a sub 100k mile sub $15k 4 door something that won’t suck my soul. Reliability a must. Autocross-able a plus. Opinions?

Hmmm, this is actually tougher than I thought; my initial reaction was Japanese performance sedans (WRX, Evos, MazdaSpeed6es and the like) but most of these have some sort of issue, and it goes without saying that they’ll have been modified to death and treated like shit.
Other than that, if you’re a good negotiator and possibly willing to drive a little, Early (2011ish) Focus STs sometimes fall below about $16,000. A resanably desperate seller could possibly get that into your price range
There are millions of other superior cars worth considering that other people are going to bring up though

Do what I did, find a fifth gen legacy 2.5GT? I paid $18K for mine at 60k miles, but it’s truly a do everything car. Basically a WRX in a larger pacakge. The aftermarket is a little more difficult, but the car is pure fun, and fits two rear facing car seats if you have to.
Otherwise, WRX. But your passenger better be pretty short...

Yes I've been thinking the only reason not to buy one of these is they may have been thrashed. I could make a decent determination though

I've always liked them. If I can find a NC car, it would be rust free too. Any issues with these?

1. It will totally baby.
2. The sport got the 3.5L instead of the 3.0L so you have ~40 more hp (they claim 23, but having owned a 3.0L there is no way it makes a usable 240 hp).
Use the savings on the $15k budget to get sticker tires, you’d be surprised at how well one of these can hustle.

A Cadillac STS-V can be had for under 15k and can you say no to 470+ HP?

This seems to be the thing; it seems anything practical and fun had been driven to death and ruined; the only possible exception I can think of would be a supper nice Lexus IS300, but am I right in thinking they were auto only in the US?

That could still work though. Auto not my fave but not the end of the world.
Full of the sound of the Gran Fury, signifying nothing.

2013-2014 Mazda6 (2015 if you can find one at your price).

Pretty much the same for me; there's some cars they work fine on, but in a world where I get a choice, I'm picking manual. I'm sure there's a better car we haven't thought of yet anyway

Chrysler 300 SRT-8 might be worth a look

I'd driven a 300 new and couldn't get past the flat dash and seats. Maybe the first gen is worth a look now. Ctsv would be great but latest gen is so good compared to the first gen that I can't do it.

so far the only possible issue is maybe a weak trans if you push the power real far, but an was software flash hits 300+ all wheel torque. You can fit bigger tires, 245 is easy, up to 275 is possible with a tuck and roll. Brakes from WRX’s can be fit, or STi brembos. So far its the 2nd most versatile car I’ve had (CTS Wagon) and 3rd most fun (92 then 02 corvette.). It’s really a great car. Easy to work on, unique but common parts compatibility. I drove 30 cars looking for this one. More interior room than most full size cars, more punch than most sports cars. It’s the most true sports sedan I can think of.

Mazda 5? Comes with moar room for your crap and comes in stick form. And Japanese reliable powers. And it comes in purple. And it is a good looking and good driving (I’m pretty sure). It’s also a wagon (don’t listen to those who say its a minivan). This is getting rambling.
