Nopenopenope. The only thing this Benz needS are amg monoblock wheels. Those headlights and taillights look super rice and cheap. At least imo

The taillights are essentially the same design as the Euro facelift tails. I agree about the AMG monoblocks, but disagree about the clear lens headlights. As they don’t have halos or tacky LEDs, they will look very OEM.

Trust me those headlights are awful in person. But it doesn’t take much to make these cars look nice. Now if only you could do something about the build quality...

Sure, the build quality was bad by Mercedes standards, but if you get a 4Matic V6 E320 and replace the sway bar end links, you actually have a pretty good car.

Or you could just get a facelifted 00-02 sport or AMG version. The difference in cost would be negligible and would already be less dorky.

That’s not the only problem area in just the front suspension alone. I’ve considered one of these 3 times now, and everytime I can’t help but compare it to my w124 which was just better in every way even with 295k on the clock.

Unfortunately, W210 Sports are impossible to come by where I live, and although AMGs are nice, the gas mileage isn't.

Excuses...

Expand your search area and gas is cheap right now!

I’d love a W124 or W201, but my dad wants me in something newer. This time, its his money. The three main problems (harmonic balancer, blower motor regulator, and window regulators) could be fixed at home, and as spring perch issues are fairly rare compared to cars sold, I figure that it’s a decent option.

I’m essentially going from a Toyota Echo to this. Plus, even an E320 is $5k where I live. In terms of expanding my search area, I don’t want to go all the way to Vancouver to go car shopping.

Is there any particular reason your dad wants you in a newer car? Safety? Reliability? If it’s safety I understand but with older cars being easy to work on it makes it pretty easy to make them reliable. That and w124 era cars are actually very safe. A quick Google shows them and the volvo 740 as the safest cars of their day. I know a random internetter isn’t going to convince your dad but it’s silly to limit your search based on year since there are certain cars from 1980 that are more reliable and safe than say a 2003.

And a link to highlight other things to look for if youre set on the w210. I wouldn’t recommend them however unless you’re mechanically inclined.

Mainly dual airbags, but also the perception of reliability. But as long as it isn’t coming out of my pocket, I’m a-ok.

I’ve done minor stuff. A fuel tank here, a 5 MPH bumper there. Stuff that is more time consuming than anything. I should be able to tackle most of those issues.

Well isn’t it obvious? The solution is to acquire more monies! Speaking of, I’m going to go do that and buy a GT-S. Easy, BRB.

Hahaha. Basically, my dad said that when we moved, he would buy me something much nicer than the Cutlass. Well, we’ve moved, and I’ve been in the mood for a Benz ever since I got to experience an ML500.

As long as you find a rust free example you should be fine then. Good luck with your search.

They’re very nice, but you knew that already. When/if you get closer to actually getting one fell free to ask questions or send me a link to your local craigslist/etc. I would be happy to help.

FYI a V8 merc will probably get much better mileage than your old cutlass ever did!

This one’s older, but has fairly low mileage.

That looks good too. I still prefer the 02 though, without actually inspecting them. I just like facelifted ones much more and they tend to be a little more reliable. But service records and condition should really be the deciding factor.
