Just a little venting here. So, Thursday, the popular 3D printing that I have put a lot of time and heart into, laid off another 20% of its workforce, and this time I couldn’t dodge the layoff. (Google it for the company name). It’s frustrating because I was promoted to a different department a few months ago, only to be cut a short while later. Luckily, I’ve got a decent enough severance package, and I’m wasting no time getting back into the job hunt, but it still is frustrating as hell. Anyone have similar experiences to keep my hopes high that I find something quick?

Sorry, man... I got laid off (office closing) at the end of the summer, and was worried a about getting a new gig, but in the end had three offers to choose from and ended up at a startup with a $10k raise and some equity in the company. Hope the silver lining is strong with you!

Thanks dude. That’s similar to what I’m thinking / going through right now. I’m hopping right into searching and not wasting any time.

I got laid off at the beginning of the summer right about a month after I told my girlfriend how happy I was with my job and coworkers haha. So I feel ya, but it sounds like you’ll be in good shape. The people to worry about are the ones that get depressed and dont get back to looking for work. IMO The hardest part is trying to enjoy the time in between jobs. That’s what everyone told me to make sure to do and I did a terrible job of it. At least I got a small raise out of it in the end.

Been there. Don’t forget to apply for unemployment too.

Hope this encourages you a bit. If you have to find a job I would think now would be the best time in the last 6 years to find one.

Unemployment rate for 16 years and over at Bureau of Labor Statistics

Yeah that's the same boat that I'm in. I'm fairly confident for now, about finding a new job but am most worried about the time between. I'm terrible at keeping myself busy, and hate being idle / by myself. So that's why I hope I can find something sooner than later.

Yup, doing that first thing tomorrow. Had to wait since I technically worked most of last week.
