Since usually we feature European wagons here on Used Car Face-Off, I decided to reverse the trend today with three wagons for the American market made by automakers from the Land of the Rising Sun. Born in the nineties, each of these cars has about two to three years between their ages, but which is the best choice? Here are the options:

Here we have the pinnacle of 90’s Toyota reliability...the durable and stout 4 cyl has about 232K miles on it but only one owner over the past twenty three years. Will this trusty but dull five door win you over with its simplicity and dual rear wipers?

Despite nearly 200K miles this twenty one year old Subaru still looks pretty fresh having had only two owners and a recent refurbishment...does its originality and five speed manual entice you over the other two wagons?

This 4 cyl Accord wagons has done about 20K less than the other two but is equally as well maintained and clean...will the growing rarity of nice examples of the fifth gen Accord wagon make this your choice for reliable transport?

Not interested in the Camry, the Accord looks rough inside, so the Legacy it is. The stick is just icing on the first-year physics professor cake.

Subaru for me, not because it’s a manual, but because it would make a fantastic winter car. Than again, all 3 would make good daily drivers.

That Subie is front wheel drive. Although still a perfectly fine winter car.

If this included the 90-93 Accord wagon I would have chose it in a heartbeat. So now I must go with the Subie

I had a ‘93 Legacy wagon, also FWD with a 5-speed. The only difference was mine was silver, and had a shitload of rust. I learned to drive stick in it. It was a good sturdy car, but unbelievably slow. If you wanted to pass another car, first you have to apply for a permit in the county you’re driving through ....

I’d take the Accord.

I learned to drive stick on a silver ‘93 just like it otherwise. Mine was rusty as hell though.

The Camry has some serious potential for a 3S GTE swap, and the Subaru with a FA20 will be amazing

The D pillar on the Camry takes it from boring straight to ugly. I can handle boring, but can’t tolerate ugly.

Either of the other two would be fine, but I'll give the tie to the Subie for the manual transmission.

I wish I had something to learn stick on...we used to have my dad’s old 740 turbo wagon beater but alas, that’s been gone several years now...

I would have thought Camry because 90s Toyota = Hilux.

I tried but most were either beat to shit, riced as hell, or both...

Perhaps a good B or K series into the Accord, no?

Eh, I like the Camry because it’s so huge and ugly that it almost works, and the two rear wipers kind of say to me that the designers gave up trying to improve the styling and just tried to make it work as it is...

Try an old pickup. If you can drive that you can drive anything

Awesome! We used to have two 740s, a N/A sedan and turbo wagon but we’ve since modernized to an ‘01 V70 T5 and my ‘05 V50 2.4i...

Well, I think the Camry is so ugly that it’s cool again because its gigantic rear kind of brings to mind some species of whale...
