Here is part one of a shootout between some cars. They are all owned by one guy and driven by a BTCC driver. At Silverstone. With lap times.

I salute you Paul Bailey. You said you would do it and you did it.

After watching that, it just makes me wish Top Gear (or Harris) would’ve had them first...

Ferrari isn’t going to be happy about this.

Well TG probably would have by now if somebody would have had a Snickers...

Tough call and I don’t think you could go wrong. As much as Ferrari’s business practices annoy me, I couldn’t deny the V12.

I’m a 918 fan myself, but yeah, you can’t really go wrong with any of them.

Why do you think they haven’t let these comparisons happen until now?
What do you want the bet that the one they provide for Top Gear does better? Ha!

Honestly, kinda over it. I’d buy a P1 because I like em. I’m sure most folks with two mill to spend on a car would get whichever one they randomly like also.

Just like I’d buy the 918 because that’s the one that’s most appealing to me. It doesn’t matter at this point, other than bragging rights. They were all sold long ago.

Haha, had to look it up. That’s pretty silly, but I do love side pipes, so I’ll let it slide.
Has there ever been a production mid-engine car with side pipes? None that I can think of, but it would be a kinda cool, if over-complicated way of doing it.

I almost guarantee it. They probably had techs on site to tune the car to be slightly faster.

Oh damn, this is exactly why Ferrari always sends techs out to tune the cars when the press are testing them.

here’s what I got from the laptimes, they are all close enough to be down to some driver error if the difference between the P1 and 918 were 1 second instead of 0.24 I’d call the P1 way faster but under a quarter of a second? that could be a driver mistake in one corner, they only did six laps after all. I’d say they all pretty much even, we got the P1 fastest here, the 918 beat the P1 when Motor Trend did it, Chris Harris and James MAy both said the LaFerrar was a cut above the other two.
It’ll be interesting to see what Harris and ClarkHamMay find.

Good assessment. The driver in this video also mentioned they tested the P1 first, early in the day when the track was colder and possibly damp, and the driver, pro or not, probably only got better the more laps he did. So given those handicaps, I think it’s fair to say the P1 was fastest at that track.
Now I just wish we would have gotten a comparison at the Top Gear track, which has a lot more tight corners and hard accelerations out of those corners. Would the downforce of the P1 be enough to compensate for the AWD grip of the 918? The world may never know.

Yeah it’s a bit silly that they wouldn’t allow a direct head to head (except Porsche apparently). It’s not like there is a series where these cars will actually race head to head, like the supercars of the ‘60s and 70’s might have. And the only reason this comparison happened is because one guy was crazy enough to buy all of them and let other people fly around a track.
And of course it’s all about bragging rights, but that’s what competition is if nothing else, right? It’s a marketing tool.
I’d still like to know the ‘Ring times for the P1 and LaF. My bet is on the 918 at the drag strip.

Didn’t Mr. Bailey go on to kill a bunch of people in Malta with his 918 since this was made? Kind of takes the shine off, no?

I think the Not TG test is at Portimao in the Algarve as Harris and his test probably is too (he has history with driving at Portimao, I think the LaFerrari might edge it there because of the long straight and the superior power to weight, that could have happened at Silverstone had they used the GP circuit instead of the national circuit. Don’t judge me but I think had jag pushed on with the CX-75 it would have trumped the lot. The near production prototype Top Gear Mag drove easily tops 220mph which is already faster than the others in top speed and I think it looks better and is more insane with a 1.6 twin charged four that revs to 10,200rpm.
