Seriously, this sounds better than the English version. It just does.
Also, these are great:
I just wish they were included in The Beatles RockBand.
Honestly, the only time a translated song sounds worse than the original is when it’s changed INTO English. “99 Red Balloons” is nowhere near as good as “99 Luftballons” even though they’re sort of both the ‘original.’

There was just a story on the Beatles german version songs on NPR the other day. They were trying to make it big in Germany, like Hasselhof big. Apparently they played lots of clubs in Deutchland early on. Lucky for them they were discovered by the rest of the world.

I always hated that Tony Basil song, and I remember when it was in constant rotation on the radio. I guess it is slightly less annoying in a different language. Of course, there are also cases of taking a foreign (to the US) language song and ruining it when translating it to English, though it’s not a strict different-language cover. I was first exposed to Falco, along with a bunch of other wild German techno music, by a German exchange student. Great stuff.
