Stupid question, I already know the answer...
An 02 Mazda Miata with 46,000 miles...
base, manual, clean, cloth top, white.
Similar to this, only with aftermarket wheels.
$3,500

The price is decent. Can’t see it being a bad choice.

No. Your life is your own. Be unique, be interesting, be yourself. The Miata is admitting you have run out of ideas.

I think the Miata has had the title long enough.

I agree. I propose we declare the 4C the new answer to everything!

Yes it’s great. It’s simply the most fun you can have for not a lot of money. But you can also look for something wild and crazy and totally different. In that regard I suggest rebadging a Merkur XR4ti to be a Ford Sierra and modding it a lot!

Damn. Lots of Miata hate in here. I’ve never drunk the Miata Kool-Aid personally, but that one looks pretty nice.

Get a miata if you don’t know what you want out of a fun car. Either the miata will be what you want, or it will show you what you want, and give you the skills to enjoy it when you do.

Picking any car is admitting you’ve run out of ideas. You’re not gonna pick something that hasn’t already been picked by tens of thousands of other people, and that exists in a market segment built to cater to the tastes of hundreds of thousands of other people. Just asking for advice from others on this subject at all is a tacit admission that your own ideas aren’t as good as ones you might source from the crowd to some degree.
Save the quest to achieve originality for the things only you can do and create. As far as the mass market product photocopying machine is concerned, nevermind that; interact with the thing you want to buy for a bit. If you like that, then get it. Be original? No. First, be happy. Then worry about everything else.

Yes.
Do yourself a favor and don’t modify it for your first six-ish months of ownership. Discover what you do and don’t like, and go from there.

I’m actually not too infatuated with the Miata myself... but things become cliche for a reason. That reason usually being that they are good/true.
The Miata is loved because it is a brilliant little sports car.
The LS swap is so popular because it’s reliable, cheap, potentially quite large power in a compact package that fits anywhere.
“Buy a Civic for a reliable DD" because that's kind of what Honda do...

BRZ/FR-S, Mustang, M235i? Those are the budget friendly cars I could think of for being the answer for everyone.

I meant as a reference to the 4C, since it is not the answer to that question.
As for a car for every question, I say GTI.

Right, that’s a valid point. I’m not sure many people would get behind a FWD car with long gearing as being the answer to everything.

People who are morally opposed to FWD bother. Besides that, there’s absolutely nothing a GTI can’t do.
If it has to be rear drive, how about E39 M5?

So true. I’m actually really tempted by the GTI but I’ve never driven aa non-FWD car so I’d want my next one to be RWD.
E39 M5 would be a superb choice although we should probably keep that as a secret so nobody goes and causes a price increase like the 911s. ;)
