The E63 AMG, particularly the ‘09-’11 ones, when they featured AMG’s pride and joy, the M154 6.2 Litre V8 engine?

Sex on wheels. The sound and the level of luxury. Not so sure on maintenance though. I hear the air suspension is horrendous to maintain though.

Oppo likes them, but Oppo prefers the older E55s. Oppo has spoken.

Never had the pleasure of driving an E63 but I once drove a 2014 RWD W212 across the top of Toronto on Highway 401...in a snowstorm...on summer touring tires (Florida registered rental).

The car seemed unperturbed by this. Midway through I was almost about to compliment myself on being able to handle the car so well, considering the conditions, but then a voice inside my head said, “Nein! You zink you are in kontrol, but ve, MB, are!”.

I got to my destination and back without issue. I did not stop at an empty parking lot covered with snow.

P.S. Were I in the market for an AMG Merc, would definitely be the E63. Not as bonkers as the C63, and not as coke dealer as the S63.

Loved and lust for that engine so much, one of my college Common App questions was favorite invention and I wrote down that exact engine.

Love them. It’s my favorite E63 at the moment. It’s usually a toss up between that and the newer 4matic Wagon one. They look and sound fantastic, are very comfortable, are stupid fast and just plain awesome.

People think they’re stupid expensive to own and maintain but they’re really not bad. Those years already have all of the updated engine parts that were problematic on older variants (at least ‘10 and ‘11 if not ‘09). I’ve never had to do engine work to one except for one minor oil leak on a high mileage car. I’ve never had to do suspension work on one except for maybe a couple of compressors due to water ingress or maintenance alignments. Honestly the most common repairs I’ve done on them are auxiliary batteries and Comand control knobs. Other than that the only things to worry about are the cost of brakes and tires. Pads, rotors, and tires all the way around could easily cost $8k (full dealer retail).

Best engine ever made. Probably last completely inhouse AMG engine for built for a while. Seems intimidating, but exteremly easy to work on. Purchase and don’t think twice.

good car, expensive as ass to maintain and run.

okay, let me clarify...for you, expenisve to run. I know that you want to get one. I also remember who you were telling us that you do regular 120+ MPH runs a few months back.

some how, i doubt your driving habits have changed that much.

so, tires, brakes, OIL changes with be like 3-4 times as much as your VW. reliability is decent, but IF something goes wrong, can YOU afford to fix it? remember, just because your buying it used for 40k, doesnt mean your paying for a 40k car. you paying repair bills for a 100k car

not to mention fuel consumption.

dont get me wrong, its a slick car....but I think its too much car for you at this point in your life.

Slam me if you want, but thats my take on this.

If you’re one to change your own oil, it’s about $60 for 10 quarts of Mobil 1 0W40 and a filter... But only need to change the oil every 9-10,000 miles.

There’s 2 air filters that are $12/each, tires aren’t bad for Z rated 18’s as long as you’re not buying Jesus tires and you’ll replace the rears 2:1 with fronts because they’re different sizes and offset.

Plugs/wires can be pricey (comparatively) as it takes 16 spark plugs at $8/each.

I've had it for 3 years and just over 40,000 miles; outside of tires, oil, and air I've replaced a couple of bulbs. Nothing pricey yet. 140k miles on it now.

.....

You.

do you know what you’ve done?

You’ve just told me my dream car is actually cheap to maintain (save for tires, because I do buy jesus tires :P)

I am happy, and I am thoroughly going to look for one

I would not hesitate to recommend the C55 to anyone. It’s really the last AMG built before they started adding all the air ride, sensors, and nannies. Definitely do your research and snag the right one, you absolutely won’t regret it.
