Hyundai’s crossovers have a bit of an identity issue. Here’s a 16 Tucson and 16 Santa Fe Sport. Can you tell them apart from the front? Having a corporate face is one thing but...

I hope I’m right, I think the one on the left is the Tucson because I’ve seen those wheels and I love them.

Stealthy tweakage, very stealthy.
Slimmer projection(?) headlights, bigger grille, longer hood, overall carefully tweaked front fascia. Completely different mirrors too.

They’re just taking a page from Kia and emulating Audi. Except instead of hiring an Audi designer to design good looking, cheap, and overall great cars, they’re just making everything look the same.
Seriously, can you tell the difference between the old Sonata and the Azera? I sure can’t.
I mean, Kia has trouble too with this, but Hyundai just cranks it to 11.
OT: The one on the left is the Tucson.

The left one is the Tucson because LED headlights, and the right is the Santa Fe Sport.

Try telling apart the Santa Fe Sport and regular Santa Fe from the front!

Hate to tell you…but they did hire an Audi designer.

Kia did, as I said.

An Audi designer? Sounds like an Oxymoron.

Honestly no, but I couldn’t tell most Hyundai apart.

Didn’t catch that the first time. Apologies for looking idiotic.

In all honesty, Peter was at Audi before all their cars were cookie-cutter copies of eachother, he designed the original TT, which is a damn good looking car, even if it looks like a Beetle that was stepped on.

Those wheels are nice. I could swap them out for the ones on my Soul but the customer would notice.

Widebody GT Soul. Gotta do it.

Why does the Azera (or Santa Fe sport, really) even exist?
![]() 10/05/2015 at 19:22 |
|
Because the Azera is actually a really nice car, and the Sport is just a 5-seat, smaller, cheaper version of the normal Santa Fe.

My family owns a Santa Fe Sport (which I’m not too keen on), so I have no trouble figuring that out. Additionally, the Tucson’s foglight surrounds resemble the surrounds for the new Genesis Sedan’s LED accents.

But why have the Azera at all, when you can just market a top-if-the-line Sonata? Why would someone purchase an Azera over, say, a Genisis sedan? Or over a loaded Sonata?
And how does the SF Sport differ from a Tuscon? Why both?
It seems like Hyundai needs to look at economies of scale...they could kill those two models (along with the Veracruz, if they still even make that) and save $$ on tooling and machinery.

Hello, ugly. (Yes, I spotted the Crosstour. Sticks out like a sore thumb.)

Wow, can’t believe I messed that one up, especially when there’s one in our driveway. :/

No, I could not tell which was which, even with a gun to my head.

Just serves as proof of the generic nature of automotive styling in the crossover/suv segment.

The Santa Fe is the smaller one right?
