Driving along behind a tan Chrysler Sebring (200? ...the older one). We pull away from a stoplight in the left lane and he gets up to about 20-30 mph. Out of nowhere his hood flings up with a “whump” against his windshield. The confused driver hesitates on his brake pedal, turns his flashers on, and stops.
I was dying laughing with my window fully open when I drove around to his right as he stumbled out of his car to put the hood back down.
Short story, but it made my day.

True story—there was a recall on early Colorados because for some reason they were made without a secondary hood latch.
So, if for any reason the main latch didn't catch, you got a hood in your face.

Had it happen to me once. Thankfully, it didn't hit the windshield. It did catch the wipers and strip the motor gears. Yes, it was raining. I drove the rest of the way home with my head out the window.

Off topic: At least 3 cars here just ran a red light. There’s a little part of me that hopes the motorcycle rider managed to cut the last one off, leaving the driver stuck in the middle of the intersection.
(That goes for drivers, too.)

Thought of this post as I was driving home and noticed the woman beside me’s hood was popped. Hope she wasn't taking the highway!
