Should I buy a fleet work truck from my company, knowing that it needs work. 07 F-150 107k. Let’s say it is only slightly more than a single paycheck at the starting bid.....

I did once. 1991 Mazda B2200, RWD, 5-speed (same transmission as the Miata!) with 263k for $200. It came with a ton of spare parts, because this was the last of that generation in the fleet and the company no longer had any need for the parts. It worked out when my exhaust broke just behind the flange for the cat a week later, and I had a replacement exhaust including the cat. I needed a starter, alternator, and diff during the time I had it, but it was a good little truck.

That would likely be the goal. I was thinking I could buy it and immediately flip it at auction without doing any work. I live int he south and have very good access to the Tennessee auto dealers auctions.......ALL of them.....

I don’t know how much work is needed, but sounds like a decent idea. It’s also amazing what $50 of detailing supplies and a Saturday can do to make an older truck look almost brand new.

What engine does it have? I seem to remember the 4.6L’s being very reliable, while the 5.4L’s quickly turned into worthless trash. If you know what work it needs and how much it should cost, doesn’t sound like you’re risking too much money on it either way if you need a truck. Friend had an ‘06 XL extended cab with the 4.6L brand new, and we all actually quite liked how it drove, and it had tons of room in it. Slow, but it’s a truck, so not all that important. Some stupid computer is acting up, and while it doesn’t affect anything, it keeps the CEL on, meaning it can’t be registered in NC, so they just took it down to their vacation house in Florida and left it. IIRC the computer was going to be well over a grand, and they just decided it wasn’t worth it.

You may have beat on your work trucks in the past but you got nothing on what I did to humvees and troop transports for the last decade.

This is purely a money making idea. I really don’t need a truck personally. The only intent of buying it would be to flip it for some Overland parts for my Rover or speedy mods for my FoST.
