Dem rims.
Not only do they look fly as hell, they also have a very direct grounding in real technology. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! spiral spokes which absorb shock before it even reaches the axle and a foam core to prevent the wheels getting full of sand.
In all seriousness though, I need a Mars rover with 6 individually steerable driven wheels and a full life support system in my life. Because smog and potholes=modern American city.
Oh, and Andy Weir is a motherfucking genius. The Martian is a masterpiece. Go read the book and watch the movie.

Read the book and my wife and I saw the movie today. It was really good! They cut some stuff out but when you have to fit that much content into film you have to jump over some details.

Yeah there were a couple points in the movie where they missed some context or changed something that stuck out at me... but so much happens in the book that you can’t really fault them.

They cut out the part where he crashes the rover and I thought that was a pretty big deal.

I’ve been the exact same thing! Also, the part where he looses contact with NASA again, that was pretty dramatic.
Idk, in some ways I think it speaks well of the intent of the movie. They left out some of the dramatic shit that most hollywood movies would cherrypick in favor of emphasizing the mundane stuff that is really important to the human story.
