As an electrical engineer / engine enthusiast: Neat.
I guess since it’s a pentagon, it’s two better than triangles. And they could bill it as hybrid (the bonus prize goes to whoever builds an ICE that runs at the tops of those solenoids/pistons and uses the electric as a torque boost).

I think it would be cool to use something like this in some sort of electric version of a new RX car. It could still technically be considered a rotary engine (albeit different from the engines used originally in the RX-7) Pkus it would be easy to mount up front for a RWD car. The only issue I would see would have to be packaging, as I’m sure a powerful engine using this design would be fairly large. Plus I’m sure the noise wouldn’t be too great either.

It looks like a fun build, but ultimately yeah, inefficient as hell.
