Last month, you got to see !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , some kind of huge mall dedicated to car-buying. Unfortunatly, that day, the weather was not willing to cooperate, and it never stopped raining. This time though, the sun is shinning and nothing stopped people from bringing their cars on this nice sunday morning. The variety of vehicles present was, once again, impressive.
Photodump in 3...2...1...
Toyota 1600 GT5
Toyota Carina 1600GT
Present last week, a beautiful 4 door Toyota Starlet. This time showing us what it’s got under the hood.
Another Toyota Starlet
A Toyota Celica XX, the JDM name for the very first Supra
A nice 355 Berlinetta built for the Japanese market. The owner was extremely nice and revved the shit out of his engine for us, back firing the hell out of his aftermarket exhaust. Of course, our conversation focused on engine removal and expensive maintenance. Notice the JDM small differences, requiring wider wheel wells and front side blinkers.
The french Gendarmerie was present, just in case...
Also present last month, this time with something on its roof, a nice little Subaru R1
The perfect daily driver. Alpina Twin turbo B6
Some car that you, my fellow american friends, will be able to drive in 2034: Peugeot RCZ
More pictures of that Bluebird from last month...
If having GT86 badges on Scion FRS is a thing in the US, the opposite is true in Japan. This guy went as far as getting an FRS airbag to put in his GT86. He simply exchanged his GT86 airbag with a friend’s in Hawaii.
The top of the top in term of 1st and 3rd gen RX7, next to each other, both parked like shit. A Spirit R FD3S and my factory Turbo 1985 SA22C.
Miata people, praise the almost unicorn that is the M2 1001 Roadster! 300 units ever produced only. Certainly the most desirable Miata along with the Coupe.
So I also heard you guys like wagons? Something else you never got! A Lancer Evolution Wagon. Manual 276hp...etc etc. Pretty cool
Mitsubishi GTO, the japanese name for the 3000GT. No idea if it’s a VR4 or not, Tavarish would most certainly know that...
Copens!
Something tells me this guy would feel at home around Haight Street in San Francisco...
An immaculate Corrolla AE86! A really beauty. Even here, these things go for 15000$ in such great condition nowadays.
Porsche 964 Carrera 2... Automatic......
The 2cv in desperate need of a new paint is back too! Owned by a distributor for Solaris in Japan.
My new “WTF is this, I have to own one” car of the day: Suzuki Fronte Coupé, designed by Giugiaro and making an impressive 37hp!. These little things are unfortunatly extremely rare and quite expensive. Smaller than an Austin Mini and so damn cool!
For this one you will have to wait 2037 to own it on US shores... Ouch. Peugeot 208 GTI.
Next to a good looking Volvo V40 Polestar
When I said you could find anything during a Cars and Coffee in Japan, I wasn’t kidding. These guys brought the big guns! ‘Murica!!!!!!!!
A much more socially acceptable ‘ 99 Pontiac Solstice
The best angle to picture a Toyota Soarer.
This one had “Cali Style” written on its doors...
A beaten Beat is a happy Beat!
1966 Alfa Romeo Spider 1600
No idea if it was as mean under the hood as it was outside, but this Peugeot 206 looked rather... muscular.
I hope you enjoyed my pictures, next stop for me will be the Tokyo Motorshow where Mazda will reveal its “new RX7 looking sports car”. Rotary or no rotary... That is the question!
Bonus: The hard life of being a photographer asked to take a group picture... It took him a good 2 minutes to get through that window :)

I love the shape of those old, early Alfa Romeo Duetto Soiders...gorgeous!
I’ve also considered importing a Copen sometime after 2002 when they become legal to import...not fast, but fun little rides!
Yay for Fronte Coupes as well...that one in red is stunning! I think you just found my favorite colour for them! :D

I always thought it was funny/interesting to see Soarers, Aristos, and Celsiors with their counterpart US Lexus badges on them.
Lately I’ve been having strong desires to pick up another JZX100 Chaser once they are US legal, too bad it’s still 5+ years away.
Cool pics Flavien! Especially lime that FD3S, so clean.

Love these. Drove one earlier this year (pictured), albeit a later SC100 made for the UK market. Bit of artistic license calling it smaller than a Mini though - it’s lower, but they’re as good as makes no difference the same width, and the Suzuki is longer than the Mini.
I’ve driven an early Mini too. I’d say the Mini drives better, but the Suzuki feels like a significantly higher quality product. The interior could be from a much bigger car... at least in terms of style, rather than space.

Now for my ignorant question: I thought Japan had a rule about engine age, that the engine had to be swapped out for a new one at something like five years. So how does this work with these older cars? Is there some point where they are exempt?

it does strike as a bit familiar. the first gen seemed to be more luxury touring oriented as opposed to performance like the SM. Very possible it was intended as a more accessible SM since “performance” at the time was mostly neutered and already dominated by the F-bodies and Z-cars at the time.

Will someone with knowledge please tell me more about this car:
I could look up the facts, but I’d like some opinion as well, and you people have opinions of worth, relative to the topic (many of you, anyway). Was this car ever imported here under a different name? Is it a “drivers” car? Does it have much support, tuning-wise? I’m thinking it’s not super desirable, a la R32, R33, R34, since I haven’t heard/seen much about it, is that correct? I'm really digging the profile shot, and I love me some fun-to-drive Japanese cars.
