And it’s pretty alright. People are nice, work is labor intensive(but I need the exercise desperately, I’ve gained an embarassing 80lbs since I graduated h.s. in 2012), pay is okay for someone with barely any experience and no degree, the benefits package is great(don’t get that until 3 months), and I get to drive fleet vehicles. Apparently the owner saw something in me, because the other hire has a geology degree and they didn’t hire on the spot like me, which makes me feel pretty special.
On Thursday on the way back from a testing site, I saw not one, but two K900’s seperate from each other. On the same trip I saw a truck load of new Taco’s in work truck trim(which looks great), an E92 M3, an E46 M3, and a couple of modified(at least on the exterior) C7s. All while sitting shotgun in a manual Aveo. It has the worst fake wood I’ve ever seen.
Friday I actually got to drive one of the fleet trucks to run a few errands. It was an ‘08 Silverado 1500 complete with a borked 4-speed auto(got stuck in a gear while merging onto I20, which was kind of scary because I had already merged) behind the 4.3. An interesting note, I didn’t know a digital odometer could get stuck. I always assumed they just wouldn’t come on when they were broken, but this stayed on 158,863 for around 40 miles. Overall it didn’t roll nearly as much as my Dad’s 08 Ram 1500, but visibility is much worse on the Chevy.
Oh yeah, I fixed my brakes on the Slowrunner, so it stops now! If you made it this far, here is a contender for my new DD in the next 6 months to a year:
I’m not much a VW guy, but I’ve always loved these.

I’ve gained about 40 lb since highschool and 30 of those have come since meeting my wife. While it’s no 80 I feel ya brother. Congrats on the new job though

Work will make you lose weight. When I started working at oreillys back in may I weighed 190, now Im down to 174. I lost 10 lbs within the first month of working there.
Im still losing weight, Im kinda worried that I’ll get to the point where I cant stop losing weight and it becomes a problem.

Thanks! One of the guys there has lost 50 pounds since starting a few months ago, so hopefully that happens. I’d actually be okay with just losing 50-60, because I’ve actually gotten a little taller since then, and I’m naturally a bit stocky.

One of the guys that started a few months before me has lost 50, so I should definitely lose a few. Luckily for me, after a couple days I’ve realized I wasn’t in as bad of shape as I thought.

I started my new job this past Monday. It sucks, I’m pretty much playing pallet Tetris in a warehouse. But hey, it’s money....some money.

I get to travel around the state, but sometimes that means 12-hour overnight shifts doing nothing but taking measurements at cleanup sites.

Good stuff dude. I’m sure if you’ve researched the car at all you know it’s a gas guzzler. But of course you don’t buy these cars for mpg’s.

Thanks! My current DD averages 12, and most of my commute is highway, so if I can break 20 I’ll be happy. As for Mark IV Golf reliability, I’m keeping my 4Runner for my other hobbies, so if/when it breaks I’ll have a reliable-ish backup. Though this car is on the list with a few others, I guess it kind of depends on what I can find within a reasonable area. Currently the list is: ‘06 and up RX-8, E46 330i/ci ZHP, R32, Outback/Forester XT, or maybe a Mazdaspeed NB. But that’s a little while from now, so who knows what I’ll want by then.

Or I might end up with a cheap CL car. Turbo bricks pop up relatively often, and I grew up in a 240, so I’ve always kind of wanted a turbo one.

R32s are fun, but you need to be careful when buying. Depending on the PO and the degree to which maintenance was done, they can be great or miserable.

Oh yeah, I’m aware. They are mk. IV Golfs, so I know reliability isn’t their strong suit, and their owners can easily be their weakest link. I will be looking for the stockest one possible lol, and for maintenance records. Plus I’m keeping my Yota around as a toy, so when the R32(or whatever I get) breaks, I’ll have my trusty backup.

Come on, you know you want a K1500 Suburban as your next vehicle. :)

I will be driving enough Chevy’s at work, I definitely don’t want to drive home in one. I currently have no need for a fullsize anyway, and I want something fun and fast-ish.
