I thought it was clean. I really did. The carpets were clean, the seats un-stained, the paint un-dusty. I was wrong. When I saw this I knew.

Kinja'd!!!

Eww. It had the consistency of gum. Body gum. Skin gum. I feared where else it had been lingering. So I cleaned it.

Kinja'd!!!

And every other “Touch Point” in the car. The steering wheel, the hand brake the door handles, the shift knob (of which something odd happened to)....

Kinja'd!!!

I even ventured under the hood to make it look as clean as possible.

Kinja'd!!!

It took nearly no work to get the rear seats and floors looking good:

The front, however, is beyond help.

Kinja'd!!!

Yes, those are holes in the mat, and a severely worn dead pedal. I think it is supposed to have something other than carpet covering it. Maybe not. It will soon maybe. Under the mat looks a little better.

Kinja'd!!!

I’ll be throwing in some rubber mats for winter anyways, so that’ll cover up the thin spots.

Other than cleaning I did some inventory on things I will need to do and order and buy and do some more, so I have a plan put together. Its not as long as I thought it would be, which is good.

Cleaning the interior has been scratched off, as has filling the flat spare with air. And swapping out the mis-matched wiper blades that was killing my OCD.

Plus I learned that the Camry and Mazda have the same size blades, so that was cool, because I had extras and just clipped them on.

Speaking of the Camry, I noticed a few shortcomings the 3 has in comparison and I will list them here:

No adjustable intermittent wiper - Int. Low and High are all I get. But it DOES have a Mist function which the Camry did not.

No sunvisor slide-out extensions - It needs them

Less torque - feels slower off the line, slower elsewhere as well

More rust - Duh its a Mazda3

Electronic throttle makes launching... different. But I haven’t stalled or missed a gear yet.

That’s a rear small list of cons I guess, and the pros WAY outweigh them. Do I miss the Camry? No.

Unlock your trip computer. I wanted to but I have an 08 and you can’t “hack” those..=(

My car has intermitent wipers, so maybe it was a latter-added function?

Your engine bay is beautiful, wish mine were that clean.

With that many miles, I bet it is in dire need of at least a tune up and maybe some fluid changes all around. A tune up might wake it up a little bit overall... although I don’t remember the 2.3 Mazda 3 ever being “spunky”.

I thought only the 2.0 i models didn’t have adjustable intermittent wipers, truly annoying. I have the 2.0i so I figured my car was just the bottom rung model. Rev that motor for more speed, it probably has less torque than the camery but those mazda motors like the revs. Mine will approach 55 in 2nd gear pretty quickly, even at 150 hp.

Must be an early model thing to not have adjustable intermittent wipers. My ‘08 has them.

There’s unfortunately not supposed to be anything over that dead pedal. It’s a dumb design for sure.

The 2.3 is a pretty peppy power plant. Odd that it feels slower than your Camry. Mine pulls hard even with the automatic.

There is a reason everyone new to the Mazda3 forums gets told to add headers, intake, and exhaust. The 2.0 and 2.3’s aren’t terrible engines at all, just a bit wanting for power.

yep - my 09 base “sport” has the intermittent wipers. Agree - exposed dead pedal thing is stupid. I got aftermarket mats which include coverage for the dead pedal. The 2.3 motor is not super torquey down low - but it comes alive above 2800 or so. It’s still pulling hard at 110. I’ll bet the camry feels faster with the auto off the line because of the stronger throttle tip in - a little more neck snappy.

The only fluid I’m unsure of is the trans. Going to take a look at that soon. Plugs as well.

Thanks for reminding me. Added to my list ;)

I thought the trip computer unlock was a 2006+ thing? I’ll have to check. The info display is probably going away anyways when I put in my aftermarket head unit. But then I’ll gain Bluetooth and stuff.

I’m keeping mine just going to get the proper cable to run the GROM unit I had on my IS300.
