I have said a version of this here before. So many car enthusiasts bitch about why doesn’t X manufacturer make Y car with rear-wheel-drive and a V8 and a manual transmission and a blankety blank blank ______.
And then they don’t buy one when the manufacturer makes it.
I have more-or-less done this when I’ve had the ability. My last two cars before moving to NYC (both purchased new) were a ‘91 CRX and a ‘97 SHO.
Your experience? Thoughts?

Give me $45,000 and no expectation of repayment and I’m in.

Totally agree.
Everybody bitches that so and so doesn’t make so and so with manual transmission, yet cannot afford it regardless with or without manual transmission.
I just stalk my prey and then buy used several years later. I’m eyeing a B8/B8.5 S4 as my next car.

For 45k I am looking elsewhere. It needs to be 40 or less.
But lets be real here the best pick for a four door sedan at 45k is the Charger Scat Pack

I was so very close. It’s better now, but when I was looking, the color choices were garbage. Plus I was feeling spendy, so I opted for the V-sport. I kind of regret not choosing the SS, but I have a Corvette, and it would have been somewhat redundant.

Yes, enthusiasts need to buy the cars they want.
Problem is, enthusiasts think EVERY car should be made for them. But they forget that they aren’t the market, so I’m tired of hearing the bitching.

Amen. I never bitch about “why don’t they make x” because as a general rule my family buys CPO off-lease.

I would buy it, if it was under ten grand an I could afford to maintain and insure it.
The real problem is that most enthusiasts enjoy, or at least aren’t affaid of buying used cars, or even 25 year old piles. We even sit back and look down on Joe Shmow for buying his new Mustang GT because “you could built up a beast Foxbodies for the same price.”

I’m not saying the SS is the answer to anything - it’s just an example. And as for the price, I’m guessing they’re sitting on dealer lots and you could get a great deal.

Most armchair auto enthusiasts that bitch and moan about today’s lack of manual transmission offerings or whatever don’t have the funds to keep their used cars going, much less buy a new one. The people with the cash or ability to buy a new car don’t gravitate towards manuals, by and large. Can’t blame companies for making what sells and ignoring what doesn’t. They’re a business, after all.

If I were buying new, I wonder if I’d have the cojones to get an SS.
As for the S4 - friend went to look at a used one. ‘07 I think. I gave my usual advice - have your mechanic look at it. It needed an engine.

No issue with that - as long as you get what you want.

Yeah. Instead of the 400+ hp NA V8 sedan market, I’m supporting the 400+ hp Turbo 6 sedan market.

Well, at least you’re close to supporting the new car market. Dealers and manufacturers pay a lot of attention to how easy it is to sell an off-lease car.

Would be nice if they made it in the USA. Although I love Australia so I’m willing to overlook it.

Well put. If I had the need for a car, I’d probably go CPO on (or perhaps order) a 6M Boxster. But as there would be another driver, I’d have to take that into consideration, so who knows?

Because the people who complain can’t afford the car when the manufacture listens

When I was buying my explorer I was talking with the sales guy about the SS they had and he said they are absolutely shit in the snow even with winter tires. So I wouldn’t get one unless I lived in a warmer state

I’ve known guys with money who put it where their mouth was when, say, the GTO or something similar came out. I tend not to bitch about it because: 1) the offerings now are pretty comprehensive - you can buy a RWD car with 500BHP and a 6 speed, and 2) I don’t need a car given where I live so why bitch? As I said - I’d like to think that, if we moved out of the city, I’d put my money where my mouth is and get an SS.

But automakers make gazillions in profits off crossovers and boring cars....I don't think it's too much to ask to make a few crazy unprofitable models to boost brand image and stay relevant. What hurts more is that a lot of time the manufacturers already have cool cars for other markets like gms Australian utes and wagons or their crazy euro hot hatches. Just bring us those and I'll be happy. As for manuals again it bothers me everything is about profits just offer it who cares if it loses money it looks good and establishes a good image in the eyes of enthusiasts

Yes I can blame them because there is plenty of profits in the shitty crossovers they sell by the truck load. It will not bankrupt chevy to bring us the ss. Same goes to bmw it would bankrupt them to bring back manual rwd wagons. They have tons of profit machines and poser mobiles already just make me a few enthusiast cars

Actually no. I don’t like the Holden/Vauxhall front or rear bumpers. My GTO is always going to a Pontiac.

If I could afford the SS, I probably would have bought one. I do have an Aussie car already, and I really like them.
Instead, I bought a manual transmission Colorado. I don’t feel that I’ve made a bad decision.

Yes, except for the front grill but it didn’t take long. The wheel caps are easy to swap. The back badges took maybe an hour, because I was being ocd and wanted them to look perfect. The front grille has to be swapped from the Chevy grille to the Holden one. One of my good friends helped, and it took maybe half an hour. All of the parts are for sale at the Chevy dealer too.

Oh, I’m totally agreeing with your sentiment. I want an SS, and I’m thrilled that they’re making them available again. I kind of went the same way and bought a truck that people claim they want and then they’re impossible to find on the lot.
