It has come time to move on from my (increasingly less) trusty 2002 SVT Focus daily driver. Most of you are thinking how this is going to go, but, Aha! I already know what I want to replace it with.
One of these:
My dilemma is thus: I LOVE this color. I dislike the spoiler, the black mirrors, and the Alcantara seats. As these are inseparable parts of that specific package, I will have to get a different color instead. The seats have color-matched stitching, and cannot be swapped for ones from the other models without looking terrible.
I cannot decide which color I want. I will not get black, or red. The silver and grey are rather boring. That leaves me with white and World Rally Blue. And since they have released that Hyper Blue, I just don’t like the WRB all that much.
This means I am left with white. And I just can’t seem to make it my final answer. White cars needs frequent washing to look good. My Sonic Blue SVT can go for a month without washing and still look pretty good.
So am I making a poor choice dismissing silver or grey?
I plan on getting the black 5x100 “STI” wheels and using the stock rims for winter tires.
Show me how I am wrong in my thought process here, if you think I am.

Or you can get the car with that color, remove the spoiler, swap the mirrors and the seats. That method would be loads cheaper than having to respray an entire car. Don’t settle and compromise on a car unless there are other people’s needs that need to be met with it to. It might be an extra effort but if it is exactly how you want it you will be happier in the long run.

Don’t have/want to spend the money for a full wrap. Not going to take the time to learn to do it myself either. Also, super lame to buy a non-special edition car and wrap it the color of the special edition car. Just buy the one that comes that way.

It’s okay. But with black wheels, it just looks very dark and is still a little boring. The white also shows off the curves on the car better, and I think the BRZ is a very good looking car.

Don’t do the white-color of fleet cars and cheap refrigerators. I have not seen that blue before. It is beautiful and makes the car look great. You can get used to the seats and rattle can or replace the mirrors. If you can’t go silver or grey.

The seats have special color-matched stitching and logos. The regular seats have red stitching.
They do not sell that color on its own, so I can’t get mirrors that color at all.
Sadly, swapping the parts I don’t like with ones I can live with isn’t going to look very good.
And I do not want to compromise, but I can’t get the car I want from the factory. I am not really a fan of the red stitching, but unless you get a special package, that’s all they offer. And both of the special models with blue stitching come with Alcantara seats, which I do not want to deal with.
If they offered the WRB with blue stitching without as special package, I would buy that one immediately. I would love for the white with blue stitching as well.

I’m sure you can swap the seats with someone with a regular BRZ or FR-S very easily, they may even pay a bit for the swap. You might even be able to get the dealer to swap those for you. The mirror caps shouldn’t be too expensive to swap or repaint so I’d say deal with the spoiler to get the colour you want.

I like the BRZ spoiler more than the spoiler less FR-S but it's not fantastic
![]() 10/03/2015 at 10:47 |

I suppose I could deal with the seats. I would still have to remove the spoiler though as I dislike the stock BRZ one. And the mirrors can get CF caps and I would be okay with them not being color-matched.

The Subaru doesn't allow a blue one without the options you listed?

Nope.

Seats are special with that package. Cannot be swapped for normal ones.
Added an interior pic to the post.

How friendly are you with the dealer? If you are lucky and friendly with one who has some pull you can usually get some stuff that would never be offered from factory. I am fairly positive you could color match anything on the car, it might take a bit but with a competent paint shop it wouldn’t be an issue. You can probably get the seats reupholstered. You just need the time and money. If you feel this will be a long term purchase, you can do it in stages otherwise I guess it’s a bit of tough luck.

I want something like this in CF instead of either.
![]() 10/03/2015 at 10:58 |

Not friendly enough to get them to do a blue stitching base model white one.
It will be a long-term purchase, but I am not made of money and though possible, the things that I want changed are not going to win over other financial priorities.

As far as the seats go, get custom leather. It should only run a little over a grand. The company I work for can do a leather set with matching stitch but no alcantara (maybe some perforated inserts) and the BRZ embroidery for about $1200 out the door. For a while we were the OEM supplier for Subaru and Ford. Lifetime warranty, excellent quality (better than Katzkin)
M-B-W (loves his Subaroo) has our leather in his outback.
Then just wrap the mirrors.

I actually prefer the cloth seats. I work at a dealer with leather interior cars all day. I am not a huge fan of leather. If I could get the cloth seats with blue stitching, I would buy one immediately.

There’s always Ford’s Nitrous Blue. But it’s quite a bit more expensive. But it’s bigger, so you get more blue paint for your money!

I don't know anything about these. So I was asking. I'd rather get old and fix to my personality than one of these.

The hardest part - finding the car - is past, so this should be easy. Really, it’s a good looking car, and so looks good in any colour.
I’d say if you really like that new colour (it is quite nice) then just get that and live with the things you don’t like - you could always mitigate them later (painting the mirrors, removing the spoiler, staining the BRZs on the seats).
Or just get white. Yes, you do have to wash a white car to keep it looking good (ask me how I know) but it is what it is.

Not interested. Can’t afford it. And too fast. I like the BRZ and it is more than enough car for my abilities.
It is fooking cool though, and I glad Ford is finally bringing the big guns to the US.

The mirrors I can cap with CF and I would be okay. The spoiler is probably just taped on, and could be removed.
The seats are a no-can-do. I just do not want to have to deal with the incessant care they need to look good, and since this will be a DD, they will need a lot of care to keep them nice.
I work for a car dealer, so getting my car washed isn’t a hardship, I just need to not be lazy about it. It just bugs me that everything else on the road is already silver, as that would be a good color and it looks good on the BRZ. But I don’t really want a car the same color as everything else.

I’m not a huge fan of silver or white. White can look good on performance cars if you do other things to jazz up the overall look of the car. But it really depends. Silver is just meh to me, since it’s such a common color. Charcoal gray is more interesting than silver to me, and also pretty easy to keep clean.
Looking at the specs on Subaru’s site , even the “regular” BRZ Limited comes with Alcantara seats. Only the Premium (a.k.a. base model) has cloth seats. Then there’s the Hyperblue one you’ve posted here, which adds the paint color and interior details to the Limited.
The Hyperblue is “only” $655 more than the Limited , which isn’t too terrible of price gouging for a special edition that’s really not much more than fancy paint and a couple other small details. But you’re definitely not going to see that much of an increase in the resale value.
Compared to the Premium, the Limited adds keyless access, push button start, automatic climate control, the leather/alcantara seats, heated seats, lighted vanity mirrors, fog lights, rear spoiler, and heated side mirrors.
I might have to step up to the Limited for nothing more than the lighted vanity mirrors, because if I had a car that didn’t at least have a light for the passenger mirror, I would never hear the end of the complaints from my gf about not being able to check her makeup on the way out to dinner or whatever else at night.
Anyway, if you absolutely hate Alcantara (personally I like it) and the other features on the Limited aren’t important to you, then you can certainly save some cash by sticking with the Premium. And if you like blue, then get the blue one, even if it’s not the new blue color. I like blue. Blue is good.

Maybe swap seats (you may be able to get them to do that with a base car for free) and then spend the few hundred bucks to have a true trimmer de-seam and re-stitch the seats in blue.
![]() 10/03/2015 at 11:33 |
|
Can’t swap the seats. They come with heaters as part of the special package. The base seats do not have that wiring. Much more of a pain than it’s worth, sadly.

I like blue as well. But the WRB just doesn’t do anything for me compared the the Hyper Blue.
I could live with grey. I like the white because it goes with nearly anything else, so I have lots of options for colors should I paint my calipers, etc. If I got white, I want to get the “STI” wheels Subaru sells, so I would have black wheels. I also want to cover the little trim piece on the fender with CF, and possibly put CF caps on the mirrors. I want to add a spoiler like the one I pictured in another reply. I would love for it to be real CF, but CF wrapped FRP is also okay.
My issue is that with all this black and CF, the grey car will look very plain. But, it is much easier to keep clean than white. And while I work at a dealer, I do not want to have to wash my car all the time to keep it clean. And I’m in Ohio, so excessive washing is going to make our rust issues worse.

Usually seat heaters are attached to the frame and foam - that’s how they are in other subarus.
Since the seats are the same shape you could just swap the upholstery. All the work could be finished in a day if you had an upholsterer who could do French seams.

I’m in Dayton, Ohio. I have zero idea if such a person even exists around here.
And, while I am not trying to shoot down your ideas, ultimately, this a great expense for something really rather trivial.

The white on the BRZ is at least pearl white which I generally prefer over flat white.
But those STI wheels retail for friggin $1646! That’s over $400 per wheel! Why the hell would you spend that much per wheel on a BRZ? They don’t even look that good on a white BRZ. Kinda disappear, really.
On a white car I very much prefer gunmetal, particularly shiny gunmetal (often referred to as “hyper black”) or bronze wheels. Like this:
(They put hyper black on one side of the car and bronze on the other to show the two colors.)
Either of those options on white is way better than black wheels, and you can find plenty of perfectly good options for way less than $400+ per wheel.

While still expensive, I found them at a much lower price.

Buy a white one, and vinyl wrap it Hyper Blue.

So, be a poser? I love that blue, but not enough to be “that guy”.

The seats are the same ones that come with the Limited, just with blue stiching and BRZ stiched into the seats. A cloth seat from a Premium or an FRS will bolt right in.
![]() 10/03/2015 at 13:35 |

Yes. The red stitching would also look like poo with blue stitching ever where else in the vehicle.

I mean you could get a WRB one the way he wants but you can’t get that *Exact* shade of blue the way he wants. It’s complicated...

That would probably be fine.

Personally WRB is perfectly fine, sure the Hyper.Blue is cool but for the BRZ WRB is fine.
